Tremor in Huacho: 5.2 magnitude earthquake surprised live news anchor

“It's a strong movement that we are experiencing here,” said Oscar Chilet as everything around him trembled.

Tonight, Huacho, capital of the Lima province of Huaura, was surprised by an earthquake of magnitude 5.2, which was felt until Lima. According to the National Seismological Center of the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP), the telluric movement occurred at 19:11 hours and its epicenter was located 80 kilometers west of the city of Huacho.

The tremor caused citizens to stop the activities they were carrying out in order to put themselves to safety. Unfortunately, not everyone was able to achieve this. Such is the case of a television host who was in the middle of a live broadcast.

Oscar Chilet, Exitosa news anchor, was surprised by the earthquake and his reaction was recorded for posterity. “Please stay calm, we are in a strong telluric movement, which we just felt. Keep calm please, please, we ask you calm, it is a strong movement that we are living here, in the city of Huacho. Take shelter in your own home, in your own home,” he said, while all the objects around him kept shaking.

After the earthquake, Civil Defense has not reported, so far, personal or material damage; monitoring of the vulnerable area continues. The Department of Hydrography and Navigation (DHN) of the Peruvian Navy noted that the event “does not generate a tsunami on the Peruvian coast.”

It should be noted that Peru is located in the area called the Pacific Belt of Fire, where 85% of the world's seismic activity is recorded.
