This week, a report was released detailing the 10 highest salaries in each of the five biggest leagues in Europe. In this way, a ranking can be formed with the players who have the most income and some data surprised the fans as they do not match the performances of these players.
A few days ago, the site L'Equipe had released the salaries of Ligue 1 and exposed Paris Saint-Germain as the club that more money you deposit to your stars. So much so that the 14 players who first appeared were all from the Parisian team and in the Top 20 only two played in other teams. Now, the Spanish portal Marca published the highest salary figures for the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga.
The Brazilian Neymar was then the highest-paid footballer in Europe with 48,996,000 euros per year, beating Lionel Messi, second on the list, with 40.5 million euros. Undoubtedly, football fans were surprised to see that the podium was closed by the Welshman Gareth Bale of Real Madrid. The striker, who knew how to be the star of the team, has been barely minutes ago for two seasons and is not taken into account by coach Carlo Ancelotti. The Spanish club has even tried to sell it, but he has refused to listen to offers from clubs that cannot match his current salary: 34 million euros per year.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who returned to Manchester United in mid-2021, is the highest-paid footballer in the Premier League, 35.56 million a year. The Portuguese gunner is barely above the one who had been announced as his successor at Real Madrid, Eden Hazard, who with the white jersey has not been able to have performances like the ones he knew how to do in his remembered time at Chelsea. The Belgian receives an annual salary of 30 million euros.
One thing to highlight is that due to the crisis that Barcelona is going through, many of its players decided to lower their income so as not to affect the club's coffers. That is why to find a Catalan player you have to descend to place 11, where Sergio Busquets appears, who receives 23 million euros.
In Germany, the star with the best contract is Polish Robert Lewandowski, with 23 million euros. In the Top 10 of the Bundesliga, nine are Bayern Munich players, with the exception of Marco Reus of Borussia Dortmund, who is ninth in the table with 12 million euros.
A surprise in England is that none of its 10 highest-paid footballers play for Liverpool, one of the tournament's cheerleading clubs in recent years and one of the best in Europe. Of the best placed, half are from Manchester United (Ronaldo, De Gea, Sancho, Varane and Pogba), three from City (De Bruyne, Grealish and Sterling) and the rest are Chelsea (Romelo Lukaku and Kanté).
In Italy, Juventus is the big dominator, with six places out of the top 10. Argentinian Paulo Dybala is at the top with 13.5 million euros a year, just above Serbian Dusan Vlahovic, with 12.95 million euros. Lautaro Martínez, from Inter Milan, ranks fifth with 11.1 million.
