In a joint operation between Dijin and the Public Prosecutor's Office, the capture of alias' Omar 'or' Andrés' was completed in the municipality of Tumaco, Nariño, this subject became an important leader of the ELN guerrilla throughout the Colombian Pacific, thanks to his criminal operations, which were directly focused on drug trafficking and illegal mining, acts that constitute the large percentage of crime in this region of the country.
The Director of Criminal Investigation and Interpol, Major General Fernando Murillo, explained: “After intelligence work, and through human sources, it was possible to establish that this criminal went from the department of Chocó to the department of Nariño, especially to Tumaco, to coordinate criminal actions focused on primarily drug trafficking”.
To this day, alias' Andrés' was the head of security of alias 'La Abuela', head of the ELN Western War Front, who at this time holds one of the highest positions within this armed group, since he would be in charge of all criminal operations and the shipment of narcotics from the department of Chocó. According to W Radio, Alias' Omar 'would be the direct replacement for alias' Danilo ', a guerrilla who died earlier this year.
General Murillo gave details of the event, highlighting: “In a work carried out for more than a year by the anti-terrorism group of La Dijin in in coordination with the Attorney General's Office, it resulted in the capture of alias' Omar 'or' Andrés', this person was also responsible for the security of alias 'La Abuela', leader of the Western War Front.” .
Although the predominant place of presence for the captured criminal was the department of Chocó, the intelligence work carried out by the authorities and the testimonies provided by the community made it possible to establish that alias' Omar 'went all over the Pacific cordon to the municipality of Tumaco, to give him reign. release their actions related to drug trafficking.
The alleged criminal reportedly participated in the kidnapping of the former mayor of the municipality of Alto Baudó, Tulio Mosquera Asprilla, who at the time was again aspiring to that position and was kidnapped in 2019, when armed men from the ELN intercepted him. Mosquera Asprilla, allegedly died of drowning after the sinking of a boat where he was mobilizing with the guerrillas in the framework of his abduction, according to the version of the insurgents.
Alias' Omar 'or' Andrés', has been part of this guerrilla for more than a decade, dedicating itself to various crimes where the forced displacement of both indigenous and Afro communities in the area predominate, extortive kidnapping, and in turn, direct extortion of the very communities that inhabit the region. His capture becomes a major blow to the criminal structure that governs the departments of the Colombian Pacific.
The Director of La Dijín explained that alias' Andrés' was charged with several crimes, taking into account his extensive criminal record as a member of the armed group ELN, he also highlighted the case of the kidnapping of former candidate Mosquera in Chocó, General Murillo assured: “This criminal had a 14-year career in this organization of the ELN, dedicated to extortion, kidnapping and forced displacement of indigenous communities in particular, is also responsible for the kidnapping of a mayoral candidate in previous years; Mr. Tulio Mosquera, who lost his life in captivity at the hands of these criminals. Since the operation and his capture, he has been made available to the competent authorities, where he is being charged with extortive kidnapping, as well as forced displacement, extortion and criminal activities such as illegal mining”.
