The Colombian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies (Anato) gave a positive projection of passenger mobilization in the country for Holy Week. According to the guild, it is estimated that 12% more tourists will be mobilized on domestic and international flights compared to 2019, that is, about 1.2 million.
Anato also expects that the figure will be driven by domestic passengers, since around 834,000 are expected to move around the country, a figure that would be 26% higher than that recorded during Easter 2019.
As for the national destinations that travel agencies anticipate will be the most popular during the Christian commemoration, they are: San Andrés, Cartagena, Santa Marta, the Coffee Region, Antioquia and La Guajira.
In addition, they plan that other destinations such as the Amazon, Solano Bay, Capurgana, Tolú and Coveñas, Huila, Nariño, Puerto Inírida, Popayán, Huila and Villa de Leyva, will also promote national tourism during Holy Week.
“Regarding international destinations, the United States, Mexico, Spain, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Turkey, Peru and Argentina will lead the list along with some others that have gained strength in sales from agencies such as Ecuador, Brazil, Costa Rica, Guatemala,” said Anato.
In total, the travel agency guild expects an 85% recovery in the sale of tourist packages during Easter, compared to 2019.
Faced with the projection of the number of passengers travelling around the country during the Christian commemoration, Anato reminded travelers that they can find safe travel packages through the website www.todoslosdestinos.com, a platform where agencies belonging to the Association gather their offer of tourist plans and, where they also provide direct contact between the consumer and the company that provides the service.
On March 24, Anato announced that, this year, Tolú, La Macarena and Providencia will be the three destinations that will boost Colombia's economy and that, in addition, will provide new opportunities to their communities.
According to the union, this is based on the numbers of passengers who moved to these destinations in 2019, which caused the need to start implementing direct air routes, so that the economy of both those regions and the country can recover.
The Association indicated that, in the case of Tolú, during 2019 it registered the arrival of 2,397 passengers on domestic flights, while for 2021 the figure increased to 8,372. Macarena, for its part, received 17,772 passengers on domestic flights during 2019, and in the case of Providencia, the number of travelers for the same year was 34,701.
“This action speaks very well of the confidence that exists in the sector and the country, which will boost tourism and take it back to the growth paths that it had been reporting before the pandemic,” concluded the president of Anato.
