This Wednesday, March 30, Senator Petrist Roy Barreras met with César Gaviria, director of the Liberal Party. The meeting took place after the former Colombian president broke dialogues with the Historical Pact.

Although Barreras, who was elected to the Senate in Gustavo Petro's political alliance, assured that the bridges between petrianism and liberalism were restored, several media outlets in the country said that Gaviria raised a series of requests to evaluate possible alliances.

For example, as documented in the press, the head of the red community had requested that Petro publicly apologize to him, after his vice-presidential formula, Francia Márquez, questioned him vehemently live and live.

The meeting, which took place at César Gaviria's house in northern Bogotá, was attended by Barreras, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo and José Fernando Bautista. This meeting lasted almost three hours and it was agreed that, if liberalism gave it to its militants to support Petro, he would not be able to promote reforms to the Constitution or advance projects to re-elect himself, if he became president.

For his part, through his Twitter account, Roy Barreras gave details of his meeting with the former head of state. “We have finished a warm and productive meeting with Former President César Gaviria,” Barreras said, while publicizing the issues addressed with him.

In addition, the renowned politician was positive after his meeting with the former president, who ruled Colombia between 1990 and 1994: “We hope to build an ALLIANCE that Petro has called LIBERALISM-PROGRESSIVISM that from a solid government coalition of more than a hundred Congressmen will fulfill the mandate of real change for Colombians that have received him at the polls by the Historical Pact and the Liberal Party,” added Roy Barreras.

For now it is not known whether Petro will agree to apologize to César Gaviria, who also held meetings this Wednesday with the presidential candidate of the Team for Colombia, Federico 'Fico' Gutierrez, who represents the Colombian centre-right.

At the meeting, which lasted more than three hours, the candidate for the Presidency presented his main proposals to the sole leader of the Liberal Party.

After the meeting was over, Gaviria described the meeting as “an excellent talk”. For his part, Federico Gutiérrez said that he found many coincidences with the former president regarding the future of the country.

Federico Gutiérrez also commented that the discussion spoke of a broad social agenda to ensure the well-being of citizens, give priority to regions and strengthen education. He also stressed that he is ready to meet again with the sole leader of the Liberal Party.
