On March 30, the Ministry of Labor, together with the National Government, formalized the increase in the salary of public servants in the country, under the signing of Decree 473 of March 29, 2022.
This decree adjusts a 7.26% increase to the salary of more than 1 million state servants, who would benefit from 1 April this year.
Given this, the Minister of Labour, Ángel Custodio Cabrera, commented: “With the President we have signed all the wage increases for the public sector, including the Public Force, as agreed in the state agreement. This means a very great recognition for all public servants, they will benefit 1 million 200 thousand workers.”
On the website of the Ministry of Labour they have given details of who will receive the increase, including: “The Ministries, Administrative Departments, Superintendencies, Special Administrative Units, Public Establishments, Regional Autonomous Corporations and Sustainable Development, State Social and Industrial Enterprises and Commercial, Mixed Economy Companies subject to the regime of such enterprises, other public institutions of the national Executive Branch and entities in liquidation of the national order”.
This, according to Cabrera, is recorded as the largest increase in server salaries at their different scales in the last 10 years, after a negotiation that had been working since 2021, while the previous year it only increased by 2.61%, perhaps due to the pandemic and the economic limitations it generated, since in 2020 it was 7%.
Faced with this increase, the question about how much President Iván Duque will earn is asked by many citizens, because from tomorrow the president will start to accrue like the other servers, 2.3 million pesos increase.
In other words, Duque's salary would be left in the amount of 34.3 million pesos, just like that of the congressmen.
However, the expenses of representation of the president could be higher for different reasons, which meet the needs of the national ruler in the different scenarios in which he must be present.
“As of January 1, 2022, the President of the Republic will accrue, at all times, a basic allowance equal to that accrued by the members of the Congress of the Republic and twice the representation expenses they receive,” the decree would read.
It should be noted that others that will benefit will be the state teachers, the army, as well as the supervisory bodies such as the Comptroller's Office, the Attorney General's Office and other sectors such as the Attorney General's Office.
In the case of the vice presidency, the salary would be $28,408,081 and the ministries would accrue a sum of $21,147,049 including representation expenses. While the deputy ministers and deputy directors would have just over 11 million monthly salaries left.
