Last Tuesday, November 23, 2021, it became known that the talented Peruvian producer and percussionist Tony Succar was nominated for the 2022 Grammy Awards, a ceremony that celebrates its 64th edition. This award is awarded by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States.

The Peruvian is nominated for his production Live in Peru for Best Tropical Latin Album. On the list he appears alongside Spanish-language music legends such as Gilberto Santa Rosa (Colleagues), Aymée Nuviola (Without salsa there is no paradise), El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico (In Quarantine) and Rubén Blades and Roberto Delgado & Orquesta (Salswing).

I am too happy and congratulations to all the nominees, in this category and in all categories. I'm very excited, it's my first Grammy nomination, “said the well-known percussionist visibly excited on that occasion. The Grammy ceremony would be held on Monday, January 31, 2022 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. However, it was postponed to April 3 because of the pandemic.

Given this great news and a few days after the grand gala, Infobae has prepared a list of artists who have already been nominated in previous years. As well as reading it, Tony is not the only Peruvian who has achieved this important achievement. There are three representatives who have come to this instance in the past, where it is considered the most important prize in the world of music. None of them won the long-awaited prize, but this year our compatriot and recent father could change history.

SusanaRead (2001)

The nomination was for Best Tropical Traditional Latin Album. It was not properly a nomination for the Peruvian singer, but as part of the collective Los Super Seven and the album Canto, where Baca appears performing the song “Drumi Drumi Mobila”. On that occasion they were nominated together with Las Flores de la vida (Compay Segundo), La Charanga Eterna (Orchestra Aragon), Chanchullo (Rubén González) and Let Me Enter (Carlos Vives). The latter was the winner on that occasion.

Black Peru (2004)

The Afro-Peruvian cultural association, led by Rony Campos, released the album Jolgorio, which earned him the Grammy nomination for Best World Music Album. They competed for the gramophone against Raise Your Spirit Higher (Ladysmith Black Mambazo), Yes, Soy Llanero - Joropo Music From The Orinoco Plains Of Colombia (The Cimarrón Group), Tango Varón (Sandra Luna) and Abayudaya - Music From The Jewish People Of Uganda (various artists). Also nominated were City Of Dreams (Chico Pinheiro), Viento Y Tiempo - Live At Blue Note Tokyo (Gonzalo Rubalcaba & Aymée Nuviola) and Trane's Delight (Poncho Sanchez).

LATIN GRAMMY

Tony Succar also has a history with the Latin Grammys. The first nomination came in 2018 where his song 'Me enamoro más de ti' was considered in the category Best Tropical Song. Although that time he was empty-handed.

The following year, the fate was different. Succar received four nominations with his album 'Más de mi' (Producer of the Year, Best Salsa Album, Album of the Year and Best Tropical Song). He was elected Producer of the Year and Best Salsa Album.

It should be noted that the documentary 'Mas de mi' also received two awards this year from the Panamanian International Film Festival and the Cannes World Film Festival.
