Journalist Anabel Hernández assured that her book, Emma and the Other Ladies of Narco (Grijalbo, 2021), has been read and discussed with controversy in the criminal world, in addition, other women have approached her to tell their accounts of the violence suffered, so there will be a second part of the publication.

After the media scandal generated by the mention of celebrities such as Ninel Conde or Galilea Montijo, there has also been greater controversy within drug cartels, according to the reporter who has investigated the Sinaloa Cartel for more than 16 years.

Although she did not want to say who this is, Anabel Hernández told Infobae Mexico that other women from show business have heeded the call to tell what they have experienced in the context of drug trafficking. Some stories have been very painful, but he is already working on volume two of his book.

The approach, he argues, is because of the authenticity of the information he has revealed, because the characters mentioned are not alien.

In Emma and the other ladies of narco, the journalist narrates the drama of mothers, wives, friends or lovers, as the main protagonists of the family circle that ends up reproducing new generations of crime leaders, but at the same time, they are another motivation to continue their activities illegal. Thus, not only passing passions intersect between couples of criminal bosses, but characters from show business who become an obsession.

After the book generated reissues and thousands of sales in Mexico and the United States, it also reached the audience it refers to. The answers for offering testimonies of others involved who have not come to light fulfil one objective of the book, according to Anabel Hernández. He therefore hoped that little by little the need to break with the patriarchal pact that underpins the structure of drug cartels will become visible.

Attacking with a strategy in family dynamics would turn the fight against drug trafficking, the author considered. He added that his tasks are not those of authorities, but from journalism there may be relevant contributions to those bodies.

Regarding feminist criticisms that interpret revictimizations of women referred to in the book, Anabel Hernández reiterated her respect for versions that may be generated after publication, but they are issues that must be discussed. Behind men who caused damage to society, such as dictators, were couples or a sum of those who applauded and tolerated abuse as accomplices.

Far from what television series show, the life of the ladies of the narco is not entirely glamorous. The world of drug cartels is starkly violent and when the biography of the participants in these circles is explored, they are not seen as happy. There will be more stories of this through Anabel Hernández.
