The COVID-19 pandemic has not yet ended; however, the ravages it leaves are less than those recorded during the first months of 2020. Three months after the third wave of infections was declared, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of The Ministry of Health (CDC) reported that “next week the levels will probably be reached” to declare this third stage of case registration completed.
In several respects, the figures have fallen considerably, with daily deaths being one of the most rewarding. Based on the data provided by the National System of Deaths (Sinadef), it was possible to verify that for one week the number of deaths from all causes is similar to those recorded before the pandemic. The graph prepared by engineer Juan Carbajal shows that the most recent figure is similar to that recorded at the beginning of March 2020, when the detection of the first case of Covid in our country was not yet announced.
In the case of hospitalization, five weeks have passed in which the figures are lower than those recorded during the second and third waves, when health centers received a large number of citizens who had been infected with the new variants. On the occupation of ICU beds nationwide, only 37% of them are occupied, while in the general count there is only 12%.
The authorities urge the population not to let down their guard regarding care to avoid contagion because, as in the past, mutations of the virus could reach our country and cause a new wave of contagion. The CDC does not rule out the start of a fourth wave of which the effects it could have on the population are unknown given that there is no record of new variants and their characteristics.
SITUATIONAL ROOM
Although there have been favourable figures during the last few weeks. The Ministry of Health continues to monitor new cases through the Situational Room and the open data platform. Thus, during the last 24 hours, 356 new infections were registered and 13 compatriots lost their lives due to the coronavirus. During that time period, 48,982 people were tested nationwide.
The number of people hospitalized rises to 1,336 because of the virus that triggered this pandemic. Of these, 477 are hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) being treated with mechanical ventilation. More than 3 million people have been in home isolation since the start of the pandemic, according to the Ministry of Health.
Since March 2020, more than 25 million Peruvians have been tested for coronavirus, of which 3,546,696 were confirmed cases. 212,207 is the total number, so far, of compatriots who have died due to COVID-19 since the virus was first registered on national territory.
In order to stop infections, the government maintains the recommendation to respect the physical distancing of at least one meter between people. He urges the population to constantly wash their hands, wear masks that are, preferably, KN95.
