Catalina Castro is a 33-year-old Colombian who has been living in Mexico for more than 12 years. There he moved with what was then his partner, Sergio León Cervantes, a renowned Mexican businessman and until a few months ago he was the president of Coparmex. After the divorce, Castro denounces assaults on the part of her ex-partner and claims that he forced her to get away from her children since it has not yet been defined who will take custody.

Coparmex is a union of voluntary affiliation of employers from all sectors seeking representation in the labor and social sphere. This news has generated many comments on social media and the Mexican media have been aware of the situation. According to the versions submitted by Catalina, domestic violence had been recorded for several years, but it was in 2021 that the first physical assaults occurred.

In an interview for Caracol Radio's '10 AM Hoy por Hoy', Catalina Castro said, “this starts from last year. In June it was the beatings, I did not report out of fear, as all women sometimes love family and children, and we made that wrong decision not to raise our voice, but in November we decided to end the relationship and in January the whole nightmare begins”.

“When I file a complaint for domestic violence because the lord threatens me by saying that he is an important person and that I am nobody, that I dedicated myself only to household chores, then I file the complaint on January 21, on the 24th I file a complaint for unilateral divorce, he files it on January 28, his was admitted and mine isn't. We're already divorced, they didn't notify me of a divorce hearing, they're violating me and violating due process in the most blatant way. Today they have him as the judicial depositary for children because they say that I am a person who is not fit to take care of children,” said Catalina Castro in an interview with Caracol Radio.

The couple married in 2012 and currently have two children, one aged nine and the other four years old. Catalina Castro said that the blows happened on approximately five occasions, ranging from slapping to shoving. He asserted that Sergio León is a violent and aggressive person, since for several years he has suffered from constant psychological and verbal violence.

“He threatened me directly, he knows a lot of people in the business, judicial and political spheres, but there is one person in particular who is very close friends with him who is Judge Verónica Acacio Trujillo, they have a very close friendship and he threatened me that she was going to help him destroy me, that's what he told me and he's doing it. It is not normal for the agreements, with the evidence that I present with testimonies and the balance to be tilted towards it; it is evident that someone is influencing and that is why I dare to denounce it here in Mexico and denounce it in Colombia,” added the 33-year-old woman.

For now Catalina Castro and her lawyer are waiting and will exhaust all possible legal remedies to be able to solve their situation and it will reach the final consequences for justice to be done.
