The driver Sergio Pérez assured that he wants Patricio O'Ward's presence in Formula 1 at some point, but that for the moment what he recommends is to focus entirely on the IndyCar Series, a category in which the region is currently competing with McLaren. “I would love it if I could get there,” he said.

With more than a decade of experience in the top category of motorsport, Checo is one of the most established drivers in the competition. He currently occupies one of the two seats that Red Bull Racing has available (he shares a team with world champion Max Verstappen), where he competes for the second year in a row.

Pato has excellent talent, but I think the best thing he can do today is to focus 100% on IndyCar, seek to win and grow. Not thinking so much about Formula 1. It happened to me, when you are young all the drivers dream of being in Formula, but right now the focus must be on whatever category you are in, to give as much as possible. Everything else is a consequence,” said the tapatio.

At the end of the 2021 championship, O'Ward conducted tests with the Formula 1 team. On board the MCL35M, the driver toured the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi, the venue of the last Grand Prix of the season. The tests corresponded to the protocol that all the teams do annually to assess the pilots who are in other categories.

In his talk with narrator Luis Manuel Chacho López, the 32-year-old Mexican also had words to respond on a wide variety of topics, many proposed by the audience that attended the event organized by Inter.mx and Fox Sports.

One of the most requested questions is how the driver sees his chances of winning races and getting points. When asked about a target amount, Perez replied: “I hope enough to be champion. It's a number that doesn't matter much. What matters is that they are enough for the goal.”

So far, two Grand Prix have been held. In Bahrain, the tapatio left the race one lap after finishing and occupying the podium. In Saudi Arabia, a virtual safety car damaged his strategy and caused him to drop three positions (he was driving first).

“I hope to be in the championship fight. We had very bad luck this season with the first two races. If not, we would be first and second in the championship, so I think it promises a lot this year,” he said
