The nephews of the President of the Republic, the former secretary-general of the presidency, Bruno Pacheco and the businesswoman Karelim López, have been part of the close circle of President Pedro Castillo during these eight months in office. Starting with the 20,000 suns that were found in the presidential office and visits that looked like family members, to allegedly being part of the case Tarata III Bridge.
In the case of his nephew Fray Vasquez Castillo, he began with visits to the Palace, accumulating a total of 16, which were between August 6 and September 24. Most of these were recorded as family visits in the name of the Military House. Only the first was recorded as a meeting with Pedro Castillo himself. In addition, he has another visit on August 7 to the then Minister of Defense, Walter Ayala. The former minister has said that the meeting was for the president's nephew to greet him. His entry into a more recent state entity went to the Congress of the Republic on February 9 to testify before the Congressional Oversight Commission. In addition, he was strongly related to Bruno Pacheco.
At first he was also involved in holding meetings at the house of the Jiron Sarratea, since he was apparently in charge of receiving and accompanying people arriving at the place.
Vasquez is called to the prosecution for the first time, as he was seen arriving at the scene in a van in the name of a company owned by Zamir Villaverde, who is now being co-investigated by money laundering, and spending the night there. He does not attend presenting a lack of COVID-19 test, but finally, he attended on February 9. Before the parliamentary group, Fray Vasquez said: “I have attended Sarratea, I don't remember how many times. Only in family reunions with my uncle and with fellow countrymen (...) I don't know Karelim López. I have no amical link with her. Only once did I receive it in Sarratea.”
Karelim López declared as an aspiring collaborator before the prosecution a few weeks later and that was when he also implicated Vasquez Castillo in the alleged mafia of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), along with his two cousins. “Conformed by President Pedro Castillo Terrones (...) the nephews of the president: Fray Vasquez Castillo, Gian Marco Castillo Gomez, Rousbelt [Rudbel] Oblitas Paredes, nephew on his wife's side,” he said.
In the case of the other nephew of President Gian Marco Castillo, who according to López is involved in the MTC mafia, registers 21 admissions to the Government Palace between August 2 and September 24, always in the name of the Military House and almost always for family visits. He also has in his name a meeting with then-minister Walter Ayala on August 7, the same day that a visit by his cousin Fray Vasquez to the same office is recorded.
ITS ROLE IN THE MTC AND THE PUENTE TARATA CASE 3
The representative of the Public Ministry stated that, according to businesswoman Karelim López, Zamir Villaverde contacted businessmen interested in works of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), and that they were then contacted by Fray Castillo and Gian Marco Castillo (nephews of Pedro Castillo), to provide information about such works.
He added that the nephews of the head of state had the task of transmitting the interest of businessmen to the former Minister of Transport, Juan Silva, so that the management of the works could be concretized.
The prosecutor has charged Gian Marco Castillo Gómez with aggravated collusion, influence trafficking and criminal organization.
He also mentioned that the link between Zamir Villaverde, Fray Castillo and Gian Marco Castillo, nephews of President Pedro Castillo, dates from the election campaign.
Meanwhile, the judge in charge of the hearing, Manuel Chuyo, said that this Wednesday only the Prosecutor's Office and the defenders of the accused will intervene, since the decision will be announced at a later date.
‘NO HABIDOS’
Last Monday, March 28, businessman Zamir Villaverde was preliminarily arrested, along with the nephews of the president and Bruno Pacheco who did not was reportedly placed at his home at the time of the intervention carried out by the Intelligence Division and the Anti-Corruption Directorate (DIRCOCOR), according to ATV there was a search and arrest warrant for 11 persons.
The president's nephews involved, Fray Vasquez Castillo and Gian Marco Castillo Gómez, have not left any trace of their whereabouts, who went from having meetings with the president at the house of Breña and went to Magdalena's house a house linked to them. This has been intervened on two occasions and found inside an agenda and chips that the prosecution has collected to find out what they are.
Like Pacheco, Karelim López, they have 8 months of impediment to leave the country due to the cases Petro Peru and Provías.
In the case of the president's nephews, the anti-corruption prosecutor Karla Zecenarro, on the morning of March 22, requested that the nephews of President Pedro Castillo be prevented from leaving the country. The order also reaches businessman Zamir Villaverde, manager of Termirex and other members of the construction company. The representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office requests that they be prevented from leaving the country between 4 and 5 months.
The request was received by the judge of the Second Preparatory Investigation Court Manuel Chuyo, who scheduled the hearing for March 30.
