One of the most recognized rivalries in the sports field is that of David Faitelson with Saúl Álvarez. The journalist has become one of the most fierce critics in the tapatio race and, even, they have engaged in live discussions on television. Although José Ramón Fernández's student has been dissatisfied with most of the rivals that Canelo has faced, he recognized what the best 24 rounds he has ever exhibited have been.

During a talk with Erik Terrible Morales, Faitelson Pulido did not lose the opportunity to beat the Mexican pugilist again. However, he clarified that there are times when his performance has been pushed to the limit, specifically when he faced Gennady Golovkin on two consecutive occasions, the boxer from Kazakhstan who questioned his superiority.

“The fights with Golovkin were great. The 24 rounds were full of Canelo's best moments, Canelo's worst moments, Golovkin's best and Golovkin's worst. A competitive fight, round by round. Wonderful”, he said in the podcast Un Round Más.

The start of the biggest rivalry in Canelo Álvarez's career took place on September 16, 2017. After defeating Julio Cesar Chavez by unanimous decision in May of the same year, he took up the challenge of facing world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin.

The process of the duel was characterized by the balance so even that it was reflected between the two exponents. When Canelo Alvarez seemed to take control, Gennady Golovkin resumed the staffeta and took the fight to his ground, so until the Mexican returned to the reins in an exchange round after round. Until that point in his career, Saul had already won a draw in his early years as a boxer, but he had not been subjected to such a degree of demand.

The jaws of both contenders endured blows of power that could have sent anyone else to the canvas. In the episode Canelo showed off his great waist game to dodge attacks, as well as the counterattack. Meanwhile, GGG demonstrated its most frontal style. In the end, one of the cards gave 118-112 to Alvarez, another 113-115 to the Kazakh and the final one was 114-114.

With parity, the fighters agreed to the rematch the following year, on September 15, 2018, where the picture was the same. On this occasion, although he did not have any kind of activity between the episodes, Álvarez went ahead. In addition to taking two of the cards for 115-113 and one more from 114-114, he unified the middleweight titles and reached his 50th victory.

The show was such that the fans of both boxers hailed a third match to confirm Canelo as the best or vindicate GGG. Far from it, Faitelson recalled “What did Canelo do? Oh, no. Already the third fight to see when. When Golovkin rides a stick, I'm going to give him a third fight.” And it is that the Mexican refused a rematch, because he looked at the super middleweight, where he beat Rocky Fielding in December 2018.

Despite the challenge of gaining a weight division, Faitelson considered that English “was a lump”. He also faced Sergey Kovalev to compete for the light heavyweight belt, although the journalist recalled that the fight against the Mexican was the last as a professional for the Russian and was far from his best level. With the arguments, the ESPN panelist again hinted that the best pound for pound has been characterized by choosing its rivals.

“The Mexican boxer is a brave boxer and he goes against whoever they put him. He is not seeing if he has a finger around here, if this affects him, if that does not affect him, if I can dehydrate him”, he concluded.
