The elimination of the Colombia team from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has generated all kinds of repercussions on public opinion. Despite the 1-0 victory against Venezuela as a visitor, the 'Tricolor' could not get a spot in the repechage, as Peru did its task and beat Paraguay in Lima.

Journalists, fans, artists and even politicians have spoken out about the reasons that led to the elimination of the 'Tricolor'. And one of them was the coaching staff and the squad of players who participated in these South American qualifiers, in which the 'Cafetero' team finished sixth with 23 points.

Carlos Antonio Vélez, in the broadcast of the program 'Planeta Fútbol', of Win Sports, assured that this elimination has to serve the Colombian national team to right the course and, incidentally, end the contribution of several footballers: “Several cycles were closed and not only that of Reinaldo Rueda, but also that of many others who look like former players and we just saw them in a 'picadito', rather boring, Latvian, heavy. Colombia won with very little to a modest Venezuela, full of good players, but nothing to see”.

Following this, the sports journalist said that he had a “list of the players who have already met and I hope they will not return to the Colombia national team”. It shows several of the references of the current generation of the 'Tricolor'.

“For me the cycle of Cuadrado, Falcao, James Rodríguez, Muriel, Davinson Sánchez, Tesillo ended, unless they put him in the center, Roger Martínez, Lerma, the unnamable Sebastián Villa, who fortunately have not called him but you have to close the blind because with what he did, either; Barrios and Fabra”.

In this regard, Vélez did not include other types of footballers who have been called up in recent calls, such as Luis Díaz, David Ospina, Duván Zapata, Luis Sinisterra, Daniel Muñoz, Diego Valoyes, Carlos Cuesta, Yairo Moreno, John Lucumí, Gustavo Cuellar and Johan Mojica, among other examples. A separate topic was Juan Fernando Quintero, whom he also rescued and of which he assured that “he is much better than James”.

We started from scratch with a modern technician, who has different ideas and who has a concept of what is being played today in the world. We cannot continue with that tiring walk, that jogging, that weigh the buttocks and bring players by name, commitment or because they have a lot of followers on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram”, concluded Carlos Antonio.

On the part of the footballers, James Rodriguez did not hide his sadness after the elimination of the “Tricolor”: “We were out of the World Cup. Anything you say can be used against us, now there are no more words, we did our job today, but when you don't depend on yourself it's much more complicated, even though we've done the job,” he rescued.

Meanwhile, Reinaldo Rueda gave a glimpse of his departure from the Colombia national team, understanding that his employment relationship had specific objectives: “I think it is very clear that our contract was subject to World Cup qualification, it is an evaluation that managers will have to make of the work we have done.”

Thus the outlook, the four selected men who secured their place in the World Cup were Brazil, which won 88% of the points, Argentina, Uruguay and Ecuador. While Peru is waiting to know its rival in the repechage, which will be played on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 June in a single match. The opponent of the 'Incas' will come out of the key between Australia and the United Arab Emirates.
