Shining Girls is an upcoming television series from Apple TV+, which stars and produces the American actress Elisabeth Moss, winner of the Emmy for her lead in The Handmaid's Tale. Prior to the release of its first three episodes on April 29, the platform shared the official trailer that shows more about this adaptation of the novel of the same name written by Lauren Beukes.
The drama is based on the bestseller of the same name and focuses on Kirby Mazrachi (Moss), a newspaper archivist in Chicago who abandoned investigative journalism after being the victim of a traumatic assault. When a story about a murder that reminds her of her own case comes to her ears, she joins the experienced and troubled reporter Dan Velazquez (Wagner Moura) to follow in the footsteps of her attacker, of whom she does not know her true identity.
“Years after a brutal assault installed her in a reality that continues to transform, Kirby Mazrachi discovers that a recent murder is linked to the attack he suffered. He joins veteran journalist Dan Velazquez to understand an ever-changing present and face its past,” the official description shared by the streaming service reads.
Episode by episode, the plot of Shining Girls explores the behind these unsolved cases that are linked and cause the protagonist to relive her worst traumas. Meanwhile, this unidentified aggressor is far ahead of both journalists without leaving a clue behind, will they be able to find the answers they seek? In addition to Moss and Moura, the cast consists of Phillipa Soo, Amy Brenneman and Jamie Bell.

MRC Television's upcoming title for the Apple TV+ catalog is a TV adaptation created by showrunner Silka Luisa and is directed by Emmy winner Michelle MacLaren in the opening two episodes. Elisabeth Moss is the protagonist, director and producer through her company Love and Squalor Pictures, alongside Lindsey McManus. Executive producers also include Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson and Michael Hampton (Appian Way); MacLaren and Rebecca Hobbs (MacLaren Entertainment); Daina Reid; Lau r en Beukes and Alan Page Arriaga.
The first three episodes of Shining Girls will be released on April 29 in Apple TV+ and the rest of the season will be released with a new one per week each subsequent Friday.
