On Tuesday, March 29, the Ministry of Transport announced that it officially opened the bidding process for the Buenaventura-Buga project, a second-road corridor that seeks to improve the connection between the international port area of the Colombian Pacific and the interior of the country.
The portfolio also specified that the action came after the joint work and approval of national entities such as the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, headed by Minister José Manuel Restrepo; the National Planning Department, under the tutelage of its director Alejandra Botero Barco, as well as the support of the Government of Valle del Cauca, guilds of the region and Citizen Oversight Offices.
According to information from Mintransporte, the project will have investments of $4.05 billion pesos that are estimated to generate 66,570 jobs between direct, indirect and induced.

The Buenaventura-Buga corridor will have a concession length of 128 km, with a second road along 116.1km. In addition, rehabilitation works will be carried out on the existing road.
Among the works to be carried out are the stabilization of slopes, the construction of two (2) short tunnels, which total approximately 1.4 km, and the change of electromechanical equipment in the existing seventeen (17) tunnels, whose consolidated length is 9.3 km.
The concession contract will also seek the rehabilitation of 15 km of the Simon Bolivar highway, the national crossing through Buenaventura, the development of 155 km of existing road, the improvement of 33.7 km and the construction of 35 km of new track (second road). The project also includes the operation and maintenance of 244 km.
It also seeks to reduce logistics costs for freight carriers by reducing travel times from 2.5 hours to 2 hours. That translates to a saving of 20%.
The construction process is divided into several stages: the pre-operative phase will last five (5) years, divided as follows: pre-construction phase, one and a half years (1.5); construction phase, three and a half years (3.5). Likewise, the operation and maintenance phase will be twenty-four years.
