It's been 25 years since the premiere of The Full Monty (All or Nothing Its Name in Latin America), which told the story of a group of men aged between 40 and 50 who were unemployed in an England that came from Margaret Thatcher's heritage and tried to raise their heads.
Recall that the original film told the story of Gaz (Robert Carlyle), who was sued by his ex-wife for not helping with the support of their child together. So Gaz, who has just lost his job, coordinates with his friend Dave (Mark Addy) to create a strip show in which they would be the stars. Thus they recruit four more men to completely undress and make a profit (the phrase The full Monty refers to the complete nude).
The film won a BAFTA and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Film. But now it was announced that we will have a limited series that Disney is preparing and that on this continent will be seen through Star Plus. The new story will explore the conflicts that arise in the post-industrial city of Sheffield, the problems in the health, education sectors, and again, the feeling of a ruined job.
“Twenty-five years ago, Simon Beaufoy introduced us to a group of fun, fearless and resilient unemployed working-class men from Sheffield and the world fell in love with them. We're thrilled to bring the original cast together in this new series to catch up with these iconic characters and what they've been up to since we last saw them on stage in all their glory, and we can't wait to introduce a host of exciting new faces and characters,” said Lee Manson, Director of Content for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa).
The fiction will feature the original cast composed of Robert Carlyle in the central role of Gaz; Mark Addy as Dave; Lesley Sharp who returns as Jean, Hugo Speer as Guy, Paul Barber as Horse, Steve Huison playing Lomper, Wim Snape as Nathan and the great Tom Wilkinson, who returns as Gerald.
But these working-class heroes from the north of England will not be alone. On this return we will get to know their children and grandchildren more closely. “We are delighted to reunite all Monty Men, now with a chaotic entourage of children, grandchildren, pets and a variety of parasites, to see what life is like in Sheffield twenty-five years later,” the creator, writer and executive producer told the site What's on Disney Plus from the film, Simon Beaufoy.
The series will consist of 8 one-hour episodes and will once again feature Beaufoy and producer Uberto Pasolini, and has already started its recordings in Sheffield and Manchester. Andrew Chaplin (Alma's Not Normal) and Catherine Morshead (No Offense) will be the directors of this fiction.
