The South American Qualifiers came to an end and now it's all laughs and celebrations in the Uruguayan national team after having directly entered the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. A goal that seemed very distant just four months ago, when the reality of the charrua cast was totally different.
By November 16, those directed at that time by Oscar Tabárez, were in a critical situation. They were seventh in the standings, they came from losing to Bolivia by a rout and accumulated five games without winning (four defeats and a draw).
Now, after Celeste's last participation in the qualifiers, their representative, Martín Rodríguez Nader, made public a conversation they had with the footballer two days after that 3-0 loss to La Verde.
“We came from 5 without winning. 4 very hard defeats and a draw,” explained the agent on his Twitter account along with two emojis of faces crying with laughter and the capture of the chat in question.
The first thing that could be read was the laughter of the Atlético de Madrid striker at what could have been a joke from his representative about the present that the Uruguayan national team was going through. “Sisi, laugh. Lauty (Suarez's son) is on track to run out of World Cup,” he replied.
Quickly and without hesitation, the Gunman replied: “No, because we entered the SUAREZ AREA. Calm down.” Despite the difficult situation that the selection was going through at the time, his representative decided to trust him: “I am going to keep these messages. After we classify, I make them viral,” he joked.
After entering the “Zona Suárez”, and with the arrival of Diego Alonso replacing Maestro Tabárez, Celeste did not lose again in what was left of the qualifiers. Four wins that allowed the Charrúas to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup directly by finishing fourth in the standings ahead of Peru, who will have to play the repechage.
Luis Suarez's joy was doubly. Not only did he manage to get his ticket to the World Cup event, but also with his spectacular goal against the Chilean national team he became the all-time top scorer of the South American Qualifiers ahead of Lionel Messi with 29 scores in 58 games.
It should be noted that La Pulga would still have to play a pending match against Brazil in June, in which to convert two goals it could overcome it.
