The president highlighted the trajectory and commitment of Susana Correa and her commitment to Colombians, since her tenure in the Congress of the Republic, and in the current Government, as director of the Department of Social Prosperity (DPS). The new minister thanked Iván Duque, for the opportunity to contribute to ensuring that more Colombians have safe drinking water and basic sanitation and fulfilling the dream of having a home of their own.

Correa Borrero will face major challenges for the remaining 4 months of government, such as completing the reconstruction of Providencia, which was initially in 100 days, announced in November 2020 when Hurricane Iota destroyed the island. It should be noted that she was in charge of the projects from the DPS.

This will be one of the main tasks of the new minister, the president said,

In fact, the Duke highlighted his performance in the Department of Social Prosperity, mainly during the confinement caused by the COVID 19 pandemic, where relief and financial aid were distributed to different sectors of the population,

In addition, he noted that it successfully increased the coverage of the 'Youth in Action' program, from 126,000 beneficiaries to more than 700,000 young people, with a projection to 730,000 by the end of the Government.

The new housing minister, Susana Correa, has been a key figure during the government of Iván Duque. It should be remembered that she was a senator of the Democratic Center from 2014 to 2018 where she achieved her seat to be fifth on the party list. He then campaigned for the current president and from the start he was part of his team.

During the act of possession, the outgoing minister Jonathan Malagón was reminded, who for three years led this portfolio, “the highest sales of homes registered by Colombia were achieved, the largest extension of developable land, the improvements they have in the entirety of the surrounding titles and, of course, the improvement of the houses”. Regarding Malagón, a few days ago he said that the reason for his resignation was to dedicate himself to family projects, since he is expecting his first child, in addition, he will take on other academic and professional challenges.

Susana Correa is one of the most important political figures of the moment, because her closeness with Iván Duque would make her consider leaving the ranks of the Democratic Center to join other parties, there are even rumors that indicate that a new political movement could be being created.

If this decision came to fruition, his departure from the community would only take place until after July 20, when the term of the current Congress ends and after August 7, when Iván Duque ends his term at the Casa de Nariño. One of the reasons that could lead to this decision would be the presidential support that the Democratic Center would have for the upcoming elections, the most likely candidate being Federico “Fico” Gutiérrez.
