In Mexico there are people who have great fortunes, who have managed to accumulate thanks to their business skills and who have been able to take advantage of the opportunities that life puts before them.
In addition, they regularly come from families who already have experience in the business world, so they bring an idea of how to manage them and how to make them grow.
For example, the richest man in Mexico, and one of the wealthiest people in the world, is Carlos Slim Helú, who owns some of the major companies in Mexico, and even in the world, such as Telmex, América Móvil, Grupo Financiero Inbursa and Grupo Carso.
Carlos Slim's father was a migrant of Lebanese origin who arrived in Mexico at the beginning of the 20th century, when he was only 14 years old and unable to speak Spanish. He came fleeing the yoke of the Ottoman Empire, as young people aged 15 and older were forced to join the army.
Upon arriving in Mexico, Julián Slim Haddad settled in northern Mexico with some of his brothers who were already in the country, however, they later moved to Mexico City, where they decided to live.
With the crisis left by the Mexican Revolution, Slim's father took advantage of and bought some properties at very affordable prices, and started the business of a store with one of his brothers, which they called La Estrella del Oriente, which became an important haberdashery, located on the old Capuchinas street, in Historic Center of the capital, now called Venustiano Carranza.
Slim's father, dedicated himself to business in Mexico, and instilled in him from a young age the savings and the correct management of his money, teaching him to carry with him a notebook in which he would write down the expenses he made and the income he had, so that he could realize what he spent his money on, and what expenses he could dispose of. This form of administration was taught by his father to his other brothers.
This was how Slim was related to the correct management of money, and in addition, he saw how his father managed his business, which later worked for him.
Slim studied Civil Engineering at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and after graduating, he began to lay the foundations of his companies, becoming what they are today.
The fortune of Carlos Slim, according to the latest listing by the prestigious American financial magazine Forbes, amounts to USD 55,930 million, which places him in 16th place among the wealthiest people in the world, and in the number one position nationally.
On the other hand, in position 6 nationwide, according to the latest Forbes list, is María Asunción Aramburuzabala Larregui, the woman the wealthiest in Mexico. She is heir to the empire of Grupo Modelo, a brewing company that her grandfather started, and then left it to her father, and subsequently, passed into her hands.
María Asunción Aramburuzabala also grew up immersed in business, as her father owned one of the most important beer companies in the country. After the death of her father, she took the reins of the company, of which she sold part in 2012 to the Belgian group Abi-InBev for 17 billion euros, keeping 49% of the company.
She is currently president of Tresalia Capital, Abilia, Kio Networks and BCBA Impulse. He is also a member of the Boards of Directors of some of the most important companies in Mexico.
Aramburuzabala Larregui, as already mentioned, is the richest woman in Mexico, and the sixth person with the most money in the country, behind only businessmen such as Carlos Slim, Germán Larrea and the Bailleres family.
His fortune, according to Forbes, is $5.63 billion. This means that, although it is a great fortune that the wealthiest woman in the country accumulates, it is little unlike the fortune that Slim accumulates.
This means that Carlos Slim, the richest man in Mexico, has $50 billion more than the richest woman in the country.
