The Secretary of Security of Cali, the retired Colonel Carlos Soler, referred to the attack that took place last Monday, in front of the home of the journalist of RCN's Antena 2 radio station, Óscar Luis “El Chango” Cárdenas, located in the south of that city.

In addition to condemning him on behalf of Jorge Iván Ospina's entire cabinet, Soler offered a reward to find those responsible.

In a statement shared on video, “an offer of up to 10 million pesos was made by subjects who can be identified on video, on two motorcycles; there are license plates, there are motorcycles and there are some people attacking the journalist's house” with three shots towards the gate of El Chango's house.

The secretary recalled that journalists enjoy enhanced human rights protection. “We must all unite because freedom of the press is one of the guarantees of a social state based on the rule of law and based on a guarantee of fundamental rights,” Soler said.

The Metropolitan Police of Santiago de Cali and members of the Unit of the National Model of Surveillance by Quadrants arrived at the scene to discuss the situation.

These are the statements of Colonel William Quintero, deputy commander of the Cali Police, who assured that the shots were fired with a traumatic weapon and no injuries were reported.

The authorities also began collecting key evidentiary material to identify the alleged criminals who broke into the tranquility of El Chango Cárdenas, as well as to clarify the causes of the attack, which led to the rejection of citizens.

El Chango has not issued any statements regarding the attack; however, members of the National Police indicated that they will accompany the journalist and his family during the following hours.

In his video statement about this attack on the journalist, the retired colonel assured that the Mayor's Office of Cali is working to reduce homicide levels in the city. It should be remembered that the safety indicators in 2021 in the capital of Valle del Cauca left much to be desired.

According to figures from the Ministry of Security itself, the number of robberies of people rose by 9% and homicides increased by 13.2% compared to 2020. The figures were especially high during the peak months of the national strike.
