“After a fateful encounter, Steven discovers that he has a dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with Marc Spector, a former mercenary, and the ruthless avatar of Khonshu, the Egyptian god of moon and vengeance. With his enemies converging on them, Steven must learn to adapt to this revelation and work with Marc. With other divine motives at stake, the two must navigate their complex identities in the midst of a deadly battle that unfolds between the powerful gods of Egypt,” the official synopsis describes.
How was it born in the comics?
Moon Knight made his debut in the comics of the House of Ideas with number 32 of Werewolf by Night, published in 1975. Marc Spector, the man behind the mask, is a former CIA agent and retired US Navy officer who serves as a mercenary and has the role of being the earth avatar of Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the Moon. It is an original creation by writer Doug Moench and cartoonist Don Perlin. Initially, he was considered an antagonist for a single edition, but later reappeared in Marvel Spotlight and more titles, due to his popularity in the reading public.
A Marvel anti-hero
Between villain and hero, this character was not clearly born with a vein of exercising good like other Marvel superheroes. In fact, his story throughout the comics is characterized by darkness and mystery surrounding the experiences lived by Marc Spector and his multiple personalities: billionaire Steven Grant, taxi driver Jake Lockley and others.
Oscar Isaac officially debuts at the UCM
The Guatemalan-American actor is known worldwide for his roles in the modern Star Wars trilogy, The Most Violent Year, Ballad of an Ordinary Man, Ex Machina and recently, Dune. With regard to this prominent career, he will also give life to the Moon Knight in his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that is, he is the first performer of the anti-hero to arrive in live-action. In this way, Isaac moves from the galactic franchise to a superhero franchise, and joins the ranks of the Avengers narrative line, although the Disney+ series is not very close to these initial heroes.
Mental health as a central theme
True to the original character, Moon Knight will also bet on addressing the protagonist's dissociative identity disorder and portray him as a mentally tormented man who cannot develop a routine life like other people. On the pages of Marvel, Marc Spector deals all the time with his alternative identities, while carrying out various missions under the command of the god Khonshu.
More graphic scenes
Everything would suggest that the next UCM television production will be the most violent of all, since it will have much more graphic scenes than those seen in Hawkeye. “It's been fun working with Disney+ and seeing how the boundaries of what we can do change,” said Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, Empire magazine. “There are times when Moon Knight is lamenting about another character, and he is strong and brutal, and the knee-jerk reaction is: 'Let's go back on this, right? ' No. We're not going back. There is a change in tone. This is a different thing. This is Moon Knight.”
