After the failure in the South American Qualifiers Qatar 2022, the supposed box that some players from the Colombia national team made to coach Carlos Queiroz could not be a topic to leave in the inkwell. Jorge Luis Pinto, one of the coaches who had the Tricolor, referred to the event.
The apparent box on which there is still speculation is that of the 0-3 defeats to Uruguay and 6-1 to Ecuador, for the third and fourth round of the qualifying rounds. For some, there was an agreement among the players to lose these commitments and encourage the departure of the Portuguese strategist, with whom they were not comfortable. It was even stated that in the second of the matches mentioned David Ospina refused to save, due to the non-conformity towards the DT, although there is also talk of clashes between football players, such as Luis Fernando Muriel and James Rodríguez.
Well, about the rout, Pinto, who was also cajoned by some players when he led the Costa Rican national team, gave his opinion on Caracol Radio:
Perhaps the match that affected Colombia the most in the standings at that time was the one played with Uruguay, given that it was at the Roberto Meléndez Metropolitan Stadium, and what the statistics in the qualifiers show is that those who lose the least at home are those who usually advance to the highest football contest. And against the Charrúas, as well as against the Peruvians, those led by Reinaldo Rueda lost key points, those for which the process would not have been a failure. The repechage was only one point away.
It is worth remembering that Queiroz himself referred to the “cajón” that was made to him when he came out to deny that he did not give up Colombia, but that he was kicked out, contrary to what was said by the vice president of the Colombian Football Federation (FCF), Álvaro González Alzate. He even pointed to it as one of the generators of his output.
On February 28, in a letter shared with Marca newspaper, the Portuguese strategist said:
Pinto rightly pointed out as one of the culprits of the disappointment that Colombia was left without the world cup the leaders of coffee football. The coach agrees with journalists such as Andrea Guerrero or Alejandro Pino Calad, to name just a few, that work is not being done in the lower divisions of the Tricolor, for example.
“The leaders have to make a self-criticism, if the coaches, like Reinaldo, are wrong, the players are wrong, the leaders also have to make an analysis. Then you have to be a project of all, consider U-20, U-21 and U-23, and, of course, older. That project has to be designed under a man who has the moral authority to tell a technician that we are wrong,” he added on the radio station.
