Due to activity at the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, five departments are on yellow alert

In the statement, the Geological Survey confirmed that there is a significant increase in seismic movements of the volcano. The departments of Caldas, Risaralda, Tolima, Quindio and Cundinamarca are on alert

During the last few days, volcanic activity was recorded in Nevado del Ruíz, seismic movements associated with the fracturing of rock inside the volcanic building, so the department of Risaralda reported emission of ash that spreads in different directions depending on the orientation of the wind.

For this reason, the departments of Caldas, Risaralda, Tolima, Quindio and Cundinamarca are on yellow alert.

In addition, Diana stated that, “we have been monitoring with relief agencies through the regulatory center in the face of this ash fall and in permanent contact with the Geological Observatory.”

The current activity of Ruiz is associated with the fracturing of a rock inside the volcanic building, which is located in the North sector 1.9 km away from the Arenas crater.

Although the authorities state that there is no latent danger, they also state that if the volcano's instability takes eleven years, it is important not to get used to its behavior and keep an eye on official information, which is published by the Colombian Geological Survey in a timely manner.

Recently, some reports have been generated on the seismic activity that has been generated from the Puracé volcano in Cauca. Since then, the Geological Survey has announced the intensity of the earthquakes, reaching a maximum of 3.3 at noon on Tuesday.

In a statement sent to the president of the department, Elías Carabalí, they informed him of the situation from the Geological Survey, informing: “Since recent weeks there has been a major change in the activity of the Puracé volcano; which is characterized by the increase in the number of earthquakes associated with rock fracture in the volcanic building (type VT), accompanied by fluid events within it (type LP and TR) '.

They indicated that the earthquakes occur in the volcano's area of influence and yesterday's would have occurred at less than 30 km of surface depth. In addition, constant research and monitoring of volcanoes means that action can be taken in cases of alert. However, the Geological Survey itself has emphasized that earthquakes cannot be predicted.

The Puracé was on the green level, which meant that his behavior was active and stable. However, this March 30, the information about the volcano has been updated to yellow level (III), which represents that:
