Colombia Land of Athletes will participate in the Giro d'Italia under 23 and in the women's Vuelta a Burgos

The Colombian squad received an invitation to participate in two important competitions of the European cycling calendar in both the women's and men's sectors

The Colombia Tierra de Atletes coffee team obtains for these days what could be called a prize for their outstanding presentations in different competitions. This is the invitation to two competitions on the European calendar that shows that the team is on the radar of the organizers of the most important races in the world.

The great presentations of riders such as Nairo Quintana, Egan Bernal, Rigoberto Urán, among others who have been in the old continent for some years, have made the country's image in terms of cycling quality grow.

Well, seeing them compete in the most important rounds of cycling such as the big three Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta España generates an air that many more possible champions could be found in Colombia. Although the trend in recent years has grown around different profiles that come to the fore in competitions, for example Fernando Gaviria as a sprinter with Sebastián Molano and Álvaro Hodeg.

Not only are Colombians now recognized as good climbers and gregarians in the great mountains, but also as sprinters and some take their steps as pasistas.

In the case of Colombian cyclists, since the calendar has been expanded, female talent has been taken into account, as did Laura Lozano, one of the pioneers of Colombian women's pedalism in Europe, so that later Diana Peñuela (DNA Team) and Paula Patiño (today in the Movistar Team) did, among others, to arrive at foreign teams.

Today, the Colombians celebrate being invited, as already told in Infobae, to the Giro Rosa, which is the equivalent of the Giro d'Italia, but in the women's branch. But also recently a new invitation for coffee makers arrives on behalf of the Vuelta a Burgos 2022.

The organization wants to have the Colombian squad on its 7th anniversary, which will be a rather complex challenge for the women who will be representing the country in this important WorldTour competition that will run from May 19 to 22.

While on the men's side the invitation to the under 23 team of Colombia Tierra de Atletes has been confirmed to compete in the Giro d'Italia under 23. In this case, there will be 18 Italian teams and 17 foreigners, with the Colombian team being the only Latin American team invited.

“It is a great joy for us that the U-23 cyclists of our team can be in the Giro d'Italia of the category, it fills us with excitement to be able to participate. We have prepared between January, February, March and the next month of April, to look for our first victories and to be able to compete in the general,” said Luis Alfonso Cely, Technical Director of the team.

The competition will take place in June and the team will start preparing to be able to arrive in the best conditions to be competitive.
