Many of the great stories on television were formerly works of literature, and more and more are those that offer an adaptation to the size of what readers experienced when they imagined these fictional universes. Netflix and more streaming platforms are currently betting on bringing books to movies or TV, thus managing to offer a flesh and blood version of the most incredible stories ever written in the world. What titles of this type can we find in the service catalog?

Bridgerton

This period story is one of the most captivated by viewers due to its dose of romance, drama and much, but much, sensuality in the reflection of the original characters of author Julia Quinn. Acclaimed producer Shonda Rhimes (Grey's Anatomy) is the mind behind the production that just launched its second season with a change of protagonist, as Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) is now the central axis of fiction and no longer its sister, Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor). The plot is set in London during the Regency period and focuses on the competitive marriage market among the noble classes.

Gambito de dama

Actress Anya Taylor-Joy stars in this miniseries that led her to the biggest awards on the small screen. Based on the novel by Walter Tevis, the story follows Beth Harmon, a child chess prodigy who makes her way into a man's world in the 1950s, as she deals with her addictions to pills and alcohol. It has been a worldwide success since it premiered on Netflix, the first and only season consists of seven episodes.

A place to dream

Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson star in this series that was based on Robyn Carr's books. The three-season production — and soon a fourth — focuses on a nurse practitioner who seeks peace and quiet when moving to a town in Northern California (USA), however, someone will take her to new sensations and completely shake her life.

Lupin

Maurice Leblanc's Arsène Lupin inspires the protagonist of this fiction, Assane Diop (Omar Sy), to carry out revenge on behalf of his father who was wrongly imprisoned. The man seeks to make a wealthy family pay for all the mistreatments committed against his father and devises a perfect strategy that pays homage to the famous “thief knight” in the book. It has two seasons.

Poco ortodoxa

Esther Shapiro (Shira Haas) was born and raised as part of an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in the Williamsburg neighborhood, New York. When she gets fed up with everything that is imposed on her as a woman, she escapes to Berlin and is welcomed for the first time by strangers with whom she begins to develop close ties, however, her past is not yet completely buried. The mini-series was based on Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots, the memoir that Deborah Feldman wrote based on her real experience within Hassidism.

Sombra y hueso

Based on the literary saga of Grishaverse, written by Leigh Bardugo, this fantastic proposal is set in a world torn by war and introduces us to Alina (Jessie Mei Li), an orphan soldier who does not know her power and unexpectedly becomes hope for her nation. Along the way, she will meet allies and enemies, although distinguishing between them will be more difficult than it seems in a context tormented by the nearby threat of the Shadow. The story of adaptation was born from the trilogy of the same name.
