A news anchor on Venezuelana de Televisión, the public media dominated by Chavismo, used sexist language during a live broadcast and suggested that some women do not report cases of gender-based violence due to masochism or that it is their responsibility if they mistreat and do not report them.

“Rebound in femicides during the pandemic and isolation due to COVID-19. The increase in countries was up to 50%. Do you know why, because the man is used to being on the street and the woman in the house and suddenly 60 days both of them in the house. The tensions began, the quarrels, femicide, gender violence. And also the ones that were reported, but how many women do you know who beat you at home and you don't say anything, and you don't report,” said the communicator.

He added: “How many women have you seen crying because the person abuses you, again and again, and does not report. Are there responsibilities for her, is it masochism? There it is, each case is individual.”

In Venezuela, the rights of women and girls have been profoundly violated, despite the Ministry of Women's Affairs. Everything seems to be a staging.

According to the Reports issued by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, “the lack of access to food has a particularly adverse impact on women who are the primary caregivers and/or heads of households, who are forced to dedicate an average of 10 hours a day to stand in line for food. Local sources reported some cases of women who were forced to exchange food for sex.”

In the Caribbean country, machismo is practiced and promoted from the top of power, and institutions do not protect women. That is why during the past year 2021 there was one (1) femicide every 36 hours: more than 250 women murdered during a year.

According to High Commissioner Bachelet's 2019 Report, “women, particularly women human rights defenders, nurses, teachers and public servants, have been attacked on the basis of their gender through sexist comments, gender-based violence online and public humiliation. Selective repression against members of the opposition and social leaders instills fear by showing the consequences that opposing or merely criticizing the Government or expressing dissent can entail.”
