German inflation soared to 7.3% year-on-year in March, driven by the war in Ukraine, which is driving up energy prices and increasing tensions in supply chains, according to provisional figures released on Wednesday.

The indicator, which rose 2.2 points since February, is a record since the reunification of Germany in 1990, according to statistics agency Destatis. To find such a high figure, it is necessary to go back to November 1981, in what was then West Germany.
