The 2022 Oscar ceremony was marked by Will Smith and the slap he gave Chris Rock to defend Jada Pinkett, the actress he is married to. This action was judged and analyzed by many people, including the hosts of the program Hoy, a space in which Andrea Legarreta explained her position.

In her comments, the presenter noted that she totally disapproved violence at the ceremony of the Academy of Cinematographic Arts; although she also launched herself against the type of humor allowed at the international event, she focused on the reaction of the renowned actor.

“The impulses are what lead us to do stupid things that we don't know what the consequence is going to be, obviously it wasn't fair for her (Jada Pinkett Smith) that this joke was made but he (Will Smith) also spoiled the night, the reaction is the one to be careful, violence is not applauded, sincerely”, he said.

During the 2022 Oscar ceremony, Chris Rock used the medical situation of actress Jada Pinkett Smith to compare it to Demi Moore's shaved hair character in the 1997 film G.I. Jane — which was translated as Up to the Limit in Latin America. Unlike his colleague, Will Smith's wife lives with a disease called alopecia, which causes hair loss and even baldness.

In the face of the comparison Jada showed her discomfort and discomfort, so Smith came up to Rock and hit him in the face, subsequently returned to his seat and shouted: “Keep my wife's name out of your put* mouth.”

Because of the incident, Andrea Legarreta explained that while Jada Pinkett had suffered verbal aggression, Will Smith had to control his emotions and react differently.

Later, Arath de la Torre recalled the statement issued by this institution to condemn the violence of its most recent edition, so Legarreta pointed out that it was also necessary to criticize the tone in which some jokes were made.

“And that then they also control their jokes, because then they make some jokes that are very strong, violence is also verbal, they make some very stupid jokes that sometimes even as a television viewer is uncomfortable,” said legarreta in the morning on Televisa.

Andrea Legarreta's teammates agreed that Jada had been alluded to, but they did not share Will Smith's decision to have resorted to beating. In addition to this controversy, the presenter could have referred to Amy Schumer's joke on Kirsten Dunst, as the host of the awards called her “fill in seats” creating controversy on social networks because it would have demerited her work as an actress.

It should be noted that after the viral assault on Chris Rock, the actor of Soy Legend (2007) apologized and called his own behavior unacceptable. Through a statement on his social media, the winner of the 2022 Oscar for Best Actor wrote the following:

“Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me and I reacted emotionally.”

Likewise, the actor acknowledged that the slap he gave the comedian attracted more attention than was due and could have even ruined the ceremony for all his colleagues: “I deeply regret that my behavior has tainted what has been a magnificent journey for all of us.”
