A couple of Argentine tourists were run over on Saturday, March 26 by a police patrol in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, so one of them remains in an induced coma while the second person suffered severe fractures, one of which forced the medical team to amputate a leg.

The couple, identified as Darian and Luz, were riding a motorcycle in the center of the island when they were attacked by the police unit, which according to authorities was on their way to answer a call for help. Both were taken to the general hospital in the area.

Relatives of the identified couple started a fundraising campaign to cover hospital expenses because the 28-year-old is in an induced coma due to the severity of his injuries, because according to the medical report he has broken ribs, lung injuries, brain contusion and fractures on limbs.

As for the girl traveling as a co-pilot, the impact caused fractures in her hands and legs, a situation that led to the amputation of one of her limbs.

According to family and friends, medical expenses amount to almost one hundred thousand dollars, so they cannot continue to pay for the surgeries, which is why they created a campaign to raise funds, which will also be used to pay for the transfer of both to Argentina and to be treated by their loved ones.

Darian's mother told local media that her 28-year-old son recently traveled to Quintana Roo in the company of two friends in search of a job opportunity and claims that they rented a motorcycle after receiving a job offer.
