A new controversy opened this Monday after the president of Deportivo Cali, Marco Caicedo, said he sued River Plate to FIFA, the governing body of football in the world. The leader of the 'Verdiblanco' squad stated that the Argentine team failed to meet the payment fees for the transfer of the midfielder, Agustín Palavecino.
Although the case was' uncovered 'in the last few hours, it was filed approximately three months ago. When River signed at the wheel of Argentina in February 2021, he agreed to pay Cali in two installments. The first was made effective at the time of business, disbursing 1.8 million dollars, corresponding to 35 per cent of its pass. However, a purchase obligation was set for another 30% of the player's chip (equivalent to US $1.7 million) if the player played in half of the team's matches.
Palavecino fulfilled this requirement on November 7 in the match against Patrontato for the 20th date of the Argentine Professional League 2021. That day River thrashed 5-0 and the 25-year-old midfielder scored one of the goals after scoring a long-distance shot.
The problem is that the whole of 'La Banda' had a deadline to pay all the remaining amount, for that 30%, by December, but so far it has not complied. As Infobae learned, River had already made a payment of US $500,000, so Cali's lawsuit against FIFA is for the remaining US$1.2 million from the agreement.
Karim Gorayeb, sports director of the group 'Azucarero', spoke with the Argentine radio program 'How are you doing? ' and confirmed this version: “The targets were met in November, River made a payment that was not for the full amount. The payment was received and there was an additional pending, which is what we are waiting for. There has been no communication since they made us that partial payment.”
River has assured that the money for Palavecino is contemplated, however, the problem lies in the authorizations of the Central Bank of Argentina to allow the money to be transferred. Recall that the 'Millionario' table, if the entire payment was made, would be awarded 65% of the player's pass, while Cali and Club Atlético Platense would retain the remaining percentage.
A source close to the Argentine club explained that the payment problem with the 'Sugar' painting “has to do with a foreign exchange issue.” As mentioned above, part of Palavecino's economic rights belong to Platanse, and for this reason, the bank assures that “the market accesses (dollars) that River is asking exceed the percentage limits Cali has on the player and that the difference should be paid in pesos at the official exchange rate”.
Earlier this season, the 25-year-old midfielder had a left knee injury, which forced him to miss the first matches. Of the seven dates played by River in the League Cup, this one has been available in four, and only one has been a starter.
Palavecino left Deportivo Cali as its most valuable player, since, at that time, it was worth approximately 1.8 million euros, according to the specialized portal Transfermarkt. And since it arrived at River Plate, its market value has continued to skyrocket, as the same website currently estimates it at six million.
