Presidential Candidate Luis Pérez Proposed to Put a Marijuana Leaf on the Colombian Flag

During the debate held this Tuesday at the Externado de Colombia University, the former governor of Antioquia explained his proposal to plant cannabis where coca is available today and how he would ask Congress to change the national symbol

During the debate of presidential candidates, organized by the Externado de Colombia University, candidate Luis Pérez Gutiérrez, of the Piensa en Grande movement, on the second thematic axis on drugs, the candidate proposed that the Colombian flag should have a symbol: a marijuana leaf.

When asked about the topic, “What do you intend to do to make the country have additional options to crop eradication and substitution? Would it promote scientific research on the illicit uses of the coca leaf? ”.

Perez Gutiérrez immediately took out a tricolor flag from his coat and said: “I would ask the Congress of the Republic, with respect, to change the flag.”

In the images it was recorded how Pérez showed the public a national flag - yellow, blue and red - with a marijuana plant stamped in the middle.

In the first presidential debate organized by the University of Colombia, participating candidates Ingrid Betancourt of the Green Oxygen party; Enrique Gómez of the National Salvation Movement; Gustavo Petro of the Historical Pact; Luis Pérez of the Piensa en Grande movement and J John Milton Rodríguez from Colombia Justa Libres; it had three thematic axes: youth agenda, drugs and gender equity.

For his part, candidate Luis Pérez said: “I want to continue contributing to the country. Colombia is tired of failure and we have to come up with bold proposals, starting with young people, for this country to transform itself. Colombia is calling for a major education reform.”

In the first instance, the issue of the youth agenda was discussed, the question that the senator had was, “taking into account the vulnerable situation of social and environmental leaders in the country, what are your proposals to ensure their protection?”
