Reinaldo Rueda will play the most important match with the Colombian National Team in his era and will play it against a rival that has been complex over the last few years. There is no margin for error, there are no second options, there is no plan b, everything is defined this Tuesday, March 29 by a quota for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The game that will be played at the Cachamay stadium in Ciudad Guayana in Venezuela, has all the ingredients to make it a great match. The Colombian National Team needs to beat Vinotinto at home, hope that Peru did not achieve a positive result against Paraguay and thus keep the quota for the World Cup Repechage, however, Argentina's José Néstor Pékerman, now coach of the Venezuelan national team knows Tricolor perfectly and could be key to the match.

It's not easy, it's a high-tension match because of all it means to us. Venezuela will have the support of its fans and the work of Pékerman, with experience in all lines. This rival is going to demand us to the fullest in the midst of a climate of hostility. It will show the character and maturity of our Selection. We want to go to the World Cup, we must move this game forward. We are in a group stage against Venezuela, Bolivia and another rival (repechage), it is an evaluation that football is doing to us. If we have the mettle, we will achieve it,” said Rueda.

On the other hand, Pékerman pointed out that, “I clearly say no, I didn't imagine something like that. There are many people who are very fond of him in Colombia. I feel like I have the vinotinto shirt to which I owe now. It's a tough match and I have to think that way for the Venezuelan players and our team.”

The last time the Colombian National Team visited Venezuela for the Playoffs was more than five years ago. On August 31, 2017 at the Polideportivo Pueblo Nuevo stadium in San Cristobal, Vinotinto received the Tricolor for the 15th date of the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers in Russia. A rather close match, with options for both teams but left at 90′ with a goalless draw on the scoreboard.

At that time, the Colombian National Team was led by Argentina's José Néstor Pékerman and reached the match against Rafael Dudamel's team placed third in the standings with 26 points, surpassed by Brazil who was leading with 37 and Uruguay with 27. Venezuela, for its part, was last in the table with 8 points.

Several of the players who were called up by the Argentine coach for that match are today in the squad formed by Colombian Reinaldo Rueda for the match on Tuesday, March 29 at 6.30 p.m.
