Two months before the release and weeks after the trailer was revealed, new images of Top Gun: Maverick, a continuation of the film that made Tom Cruise famous were released more than 30 years ago. The photos are part of an exclusive article from Total Film, GamesRadar+ magazine that dedicated its March 31 cover to the long-awaited return of pilot Pete Maverick Mitchell.
One photo shows Mitchell exultant; another, more serene, repairing a fighter plane. Also seen is the character of Miles Teller, Bradley Rooster Bradshaw, the son of radar intercepting expert Nick Goose Bradshaw, who died in the 1986 film, in which he was played by Anthony Edwards.
Time has also passed in history. That young and rebellious naval aviator who was Maverick retains his rank although — as the rear admiral played by Ed Harris, his superior — he could already be “a two-star admiral”. Mitchell, however, continues to take to the skies instead of working from a sleek desk.
Cruise, who in real life is a pilot, agreed to return his character on the condition that the aerial sequences used real ships and were not computer animation. This is how even the close-ups of the cockpit were made in real flight shots.

For fans of airplanes, at one point in the film a P-51 Mustang of the Second World War is seen, which is owned by the actor. It has also been speculated that it will see a high-performance Lockheed Martin SR-72, still in development.
Technology has transformed the aviation landscape, with ships that do not require great skills and combat drones. The narrative development of this sequel to Tony Scott's film, directed by Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion), focuses on the relationship between the character of Cruise, who is an instructor, and the son of Goose, one of his graduate students at the Naval School of Hunting Weapons — better known as Top Gun — who participates in a training for a special mission.

Along with Cruise, Val Kilmer will return as Tom Iceman Kazansky. In addition to Harris, Jennifer Connelly and Jon Hamm join the story. The cast is completed by Lewis Pullman, Thomasin McKenzie, Charles Parnell, Bashir Salahuddin, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, Monica Barbaro, Kara Wang, Jack Schumacher, Jake Picking, Jean Louisa Kelly, Raymond Lee, Lyliana Wray and Greg Tarzan Davis.
Top Gun: Maverick, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and written by Christopher McQuarrie, will be released on May 26 in Latin America and 27 in the United States.
