Did it ever strike you that tulips continue to grow even when they have been cut and found in a vase?

This causes a well-armed bouquet to lose its shape. Some people think it's nice, while others are bothered by this phenomenon. But there is a way to stop growth.

To achieve this, a needle is inserted through the stem, just below the cocoon. This is what iBulb, an association of companies in the bulbous plant sector, points out.

Cell elongation instead of cell division

This growth is explained by a capacity of tulips called cell elongation. Instead of growing like humans from cell division and forming new cells, tulips fill their cells with water.

Thus, in a few days, the flower stalks can become several centimeters longer.

The growth hormone auxin allows cells to be as flexible and elastic. Other plants also possess this ability, such as gladioli, daffodils and amaryllis.

How to get the mustios tulips to rise again

This ability also helps us when we buy tulips and on the way home they get mustios. Experts recommend wrapping flowers tightly in newspaper paper and placing them overnight in water. Then the cells are filled with water, and the stems are straightened.

Having bought them, so that the tulips can absorb enough water, it is recommended to trim the stems obliquely with a sharp, clean knife.

Also, the experts in tulips at iBulb advise placing the pot with the flowers initially in a dark place, where they will absorb water and become accustomed to room temperature.

These plants, which bloom in spring, also need fresh tap water at room temperature every day.
