Commons Party announced its support for the candidacy of Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez

After several months of speculation and its low vote recorded at the polls, one of the leaders of the Commons Party, the political collective resulting from the peace accords, Rodrigo Londoño formerly known as Timochencko, spoke about the upcoming presidential elections and announced that the collective's support will be for the candidacy of the representative of Historical Pact Gustavo Petro and his vice-presidential formulary Francia Márquez.

The news that finally confirmed what many citizens had long assumed, was announced by Londoño on his Twitter and began by noting that the fate of the signatories of the peace agreement cannot be stigmatization and silence.

Posterior pointed out that one of the reasons he believes that the candidacy of the Historical Pact is the real change, is because they have indicated their commitment to the implementation of the peace agreement signed in 2016 at the Teatro Colón.

“I welcome Gustavo Petro's manifest commitment to work towards a complete peace for Colombia, starting with the comprehensive implementation of the Peace Agreement between the disappeared FARC-EP and the Colombian State. Peace is the real name of social justice”, triune the politician.

In addition to giving his reasons to celebrate the fact that the Senator of Human Colombia is the alternative candidate, Londoño pledged that the Commons Party will join the ideas of the left-wing alliance so that legislative bills can be taken forward.

“I reaffirm the Commons Party's commitment and conviction to peace in the country. Comrades of the Historical Pact, we will legislate with you, shoulder to shoulder, for the country we dream of,” wrote the signatory of the peace agreement and added “@petrogustavo count on us to make Colombia a World Power of Life”.

On the morning of March 23, and after several rumors on the subject, the candidate of the Historical Pact, Gustavo Petro, confirmed that social leader Francia Márquez will be the candidate for the Vice Presidency, who will accompany him in his race to arrive at the Casa de Nariño.

This decision confirms the agreement that the presidential pre-candidates of the Historical Pact defined before the consultation: that the second most voted will accompany the first in the electoral contest for succeeding President Iván Duque.

The announcement was made at a public meeting at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in downtown Bogotá, which was attended by several political leaders, as well as the media, and hundreds of attendees.

With the confirmation of his vice-presidential formula, the also leader of Human Colombia launched his campaign Petro Presidente and, it is expected, that in the coming days he will be seen with Francia Márquez in the public squares selling his eventual government plan.

“We have decided that the vice-presidential formula, which is not the second one, is not one and two. It's one and one. In a team. A team that will be filled with men and women to be the next Government of Colombia. That team will have Francia Márquez, the best overall candidate we have had in recent times in Colombia, in the Vice Presidency of Colombia,” Petro said, while his supporters applauded him.

For her part, Francia Márquez took the floor and, with one of her distinctive typical costumes on, thanked the more than 780,000 Colombians who supported her in the internal consultation; in addition, she called Petro “brother and teammate”.

“I thank Petro for this appointment, which I will take on with empathy and great responsibility. I thank the peoples who have remained in resistance for life, peace, social justice and human dignity,” said the Afro leader from Yolombó, Cauca.
