Blanca Guerra denied having mocked Eugenio Derbez: “He is wrong”

The histrionist recalled that she congratulated her colleague on “No returns are accepted” and predicted success at the box office

Blanca Guerra defended herself against the accusations that Eugenio Derbez made against him, assuring that he never mocked the actor's work and that, on the contrary, he predicted success for his film No Returns Accepted.

In an interview with Gustavo Adolfo Infante and on the occasion of CODA's success at the 2022 Oscars, Eugenio Derbez recalled when Blanca Guerra he would have made fun of No Returns Accepted during a private screening he did for the actress and some members of the Mexican Academy of Art and Sciences Cinematographic (AMACC).

Guerra came out in his own defense and denied having made any negative comments about Derbez's film, as well as denying that he had mocked the film.

As the protagonist of Perro Callejero recalled in an interview for Gustavo Adolfo Infante's YouTube channel, Eugenio would not have invited her to see his film No Returns Accepted privately, but extended the invitation to members of an AMACC committee, which is why she attended.

No way, I have never been rude to anyone, and if Eugenio has that impression, he is wrong. It didn't happen at all. He didn't invite me, he didn't invite me, he invited the coordinating committee of the Mexican Film Academy, and it was Mónica Lozano who sent the invitation,” Guerra said.

He pointed out that at the screening, the protagonist of How to Be a Latin Lover would have talked about an event to raise funds for AMACC. She, at the end of watching the film, would have made him aware that she liked it and assured him that it was going to be a success at the box office, but that the proceeds he mentioned could not benefit the critics, if that was what he was looking for.

Guerra recalled that she sought to make it clear to Derbez that charity events held to help AMACC would not interfere with criticism to deliver the Ariel Awards.

“We were in a position that it was clear that not because those functions were done to raise funds and channel them to the Academy (...) I told him not to misunderstand it, that the Ariel prize, or the consideration of the Academy, is not a bargaining chip. That not by offering his support to the Academy would he have a favorable position in the film at the time of voting in a moment, if he registered it to win the award before the Academy,” said the protagonist of Alma de Hierro.

During the interview, the actress asked that her replica be made known to Eugenio Derbez to know what her reaction will be.

According to the producer, at the end of the private screening of No Returns Accepted, Blanca Guerra and one of her companions laughed at the film and criticized it. “Not only did he disqualify her, but I invited her to a private presentation and it was very disrespectful,” said the protagonist of Familia P. Luche.

He remarked that he has currently overcome the situation, but, at the time, he was hurt by the malicious comments that the actress would have made to him.
