The slap that Will Smith gave driver Chris Rock in the most recent installment of the Oscar sparked memes and ridicule among users of social networks that did not hesitate to remember Eduardo Yáñez's assault on a reporter, which occurred years ago and even mocked Eugenio Derbez, who attended to the ceremony as part of the cast of CODA.
During the presentation of the Pantaya movie service in Los Angeles, California, Paco Fuentes, a journalist for the Univision network asked Yañez a question about the fund his son created to fix his car; this angered the actor and slapped him, which was remembered until 5 years after what happened on the night of this Sunday's awards, which led to various memes on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.
Before he hit him, the actor lashed out at the reporter verbally: “If you're so worried about my son, you send him money” and “Don't disrespect me anymore.”
After the controversy, the actor and the communicator reached a monetary agreement in court, where it is known that Yañez paid Fuentes the amount of approximately 250 thousand dollars.
The actor of telenovelas like Fuego en la Sangre apologized shortly after in a tweet: “I want to ask a sincere apology to the public and to the person affected by my action. It wasn't the right one. My personal life is not for sale.”
After the controversy generated by Smith's blow to Rock, Eduardo Yañez became a trend on Twitter, the celebrity noted that he was watching the award when he saw the scene and mentioned that: “If I saw the accident, but imagine respect attracts respect, words are bullying”.
In addition, the actor mentioned that there are people who use the microphone to attract attention without knowing that their words can hurt others. And he stressed that you can't compare what he did with what happened in this latest edition of the Oscar Award.
When he became a trend again because of what happened in 2017, Yañez ended up saying that the blow he gave the reporter changed his life and that he wished he could turn back time to react in a different way.
Netizens could not help but highlight that the Mexican Eugenio Derbez was present in the slap that Eduardo Yañez gave and now also in the slap that Will Smith gave, which sparked several memes.
Eugenio Derbez was an actor in the winning film CODA and mentioned about this incident that: “It was very strong, we were inside and when it happened, we all let out laughter because we thought it was a joke, but the moment came when we started to see the rudeness, and we said 'this can't be joke', this is serious and then there was a tremendous silence and there was a lot of tension”.
The memes on Twitter were not long in coming, as the character of Eugenio Derbez El Diablito was remembered, who was making a sketch that consisted of showing videos of falls or funny accidents captured on camera attributed to the character; who sat on a machine and pressed a button.
So netizens joked that the character played by Derbez was responsible for both incidents.
