Punta del Este: he was riding a bicycle with a stolen air conditioner under his arm and was captured by police

The criminal was seen through video surveillance cameras in the city and was caught when he was already disarming the device

The video surveillance staff of the Unified Command Center of the Ministry of the Interior were able to see through the cameras installed in Punta del Ese that a man was riding a bicycle along San Remo Avenue, three blocks from the well-known Brava Beach. He had, under his arm, an air conditioner.

Police officers in the area were alerted and quickly came to search for him. They found him, minutes later, in a nearby vacant lot where he was taking apart the air conditioning, reported Correo de Punta.

Last Friday he was identified by the police as a 30-year-old man named A.D.P.P., who was arrested and transferred to police facilities. A few hours later, the complaint was received from the owner of the device who, despite being almost disarmed, was able to identify it as his property.

After being brought to the attention of the Prosecutor of the Fourth Turn of Maldonado (department containing the city of Punta del Este) and the judicial proceedings were completed, the 30-year-old man was convicted as “criminally responsible for a crime of rape of home concurrence outside the repetition with a crime of theft”. He was granted six months' effective imprisonment.

Another curious case in Maldonado

A man with the initials E.N.R.M., 20 years old, attacked another man on March 23 with a blunt object. It caused severe bleeding in his head and injuries to other parts of his body. At that time, the police were able to establish the guilt of the twenty-year-old in coordination with Maldonado's 4th Turn Prosecutor's Office. An inspection was even carried out in the house, where the blunt object with which the cut was made and a prickly pear were seized.

The assailant believed he was not identified as the perpetrator of the crime and, hours later, he went to the police section to make a public procedure. He entered the police station, but never left, since he was arrested in there.

At the end of the trial in the Maldonado Law Court of 11th Turn, he was charged with a “crime of attempted homicide, a crime of personal injury, a crime of internal trafficking in firearms and a crime of possession of a firearm”. He was ordered as a precautionary measure to be held in custody for ninety days.

This same month, March 2022, a similar event also happened in Maldonado. A criminal had committed a prey, a police term used to designate a small robbery, in the city of San Carlos, in the east of the country, when he went to the police station to carry out a personal procedure. While there, in Section 2, it was that alarms were raised that the subject was required by a violent event that had occurred a month ago. He was arrested and sent to jail.

On February 12, the police were requested to be present in a bar in the city because the man had consumed alcoholic beverages and at the time of payment he assaulted an employee by beating him on the head and throwing pepper spray on him. In addition, he stole 3,800 Uruguayan pesos, almost $90, and escaped on a motorcycle, FM Gente reported.

The police officers went to work on the case and a survey was carried out where it was concluded, through the biological evidence that were referred to Montevideo, that the man was Nicolás Pérez Sánchez, 33 years old.
