Peru denounced to FIFA the referee who cancelled the goal against Uruguay: What about Colombia?

The Peruvian Football Federation confirmed that it will initiate legal proceedings against Brazilian judge Anderson Daronco for his performance on the 17th date of the qualifiers

The Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) reported that it denounced Brazilian referee Anderson Daronco to FIFA for his performance in the match between Peru and Uruguay, valid for the 17th date of the qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. This was announced this Sunday through a statement released on his social networks.

“The FPF notes that a strong complaint was filed last Friday with FIFA regarding the performance of the referee Anderson Daronco, due to the publicly known facts,” the entity confirmed.

In addition, the FPF pointed out that it is awaiting the “prompt response from FIFA under regular conduct in its proceedings”, and assured that the Peruvian national team is continuing its preparation for the crucial match against Paraguay on Tuesday.

Finally, the Federation attacked the “spectacular support” of the 'Inca' fans in Montevideo, Uruguayan capital and invited them to remain united “with the conviction of achieving the great goal in these qualifiers”.

The match between Peru and Uruguay last Thursday at the Centenario stadium, which ended 1-0 in favor of the 'Celeste', was framed by the goal that was canceled by the 'Incas' in the last minutes. The play began with the winger Miguel Trauco, who threw a cross from the left sector, which was closed and ended up saving the Uruguayan goalkeeper, Sergio Rochet.

At first it seemed that the goalkeeper 'Charrúa' had the ball under control, however, when he caught it, he gradually got into the goal, leaving the feeling that the ball passed the goal line. The controversy remained open, and the truth is that the referee Daronco did not concede the goal beyond the demands of the visiting team.

Through social networks, many users claimed that the action represented a “robbery” for the Peruvian national team, and shots quickly began to be released in which the play could be seen in greater detail. Opinions were divided, but, for example, there was an internet user who did a 3D analysis where it is evident that, apparently, the ball would be in its entirety.

The truth is that with the victory Uruguay qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and now Peru will play the option of going to the repechage if it wins or draws against Paraguay on the last date of the qualifiers.

The complaint by the Peruvian Football Federation, although it could trigger an ex officio sanction against referee Anderson Daronco, does not give rise to additional measures. In the past, FIFA has already ordered repeated meetings in the midst of its zero-tolerance policy against arbitral fixes and errors, but that does not mean that this has been the case.

Thus the outlook, the outlook of Colombia will not be changed for the last day of the qualifying rounds. Those led by Reinaldo Rueda will have to face Venezuela with the need to win a victory that will allow them to secure a quota for the repechage. However, apart from a hypothetical triumph, Peru cannot beat Paraguay, since, in that case, the 'Incas' would be the ones who would go to the repechage.

The 'Tricolor' could also reach the repechage if it ties, but more results must be given. On the one hand, for the Peruvian national team to lose to the 'Guaraníes'; and on the other, that Chile equals or falls to Uruguay. In this way, the 'Cafetero' team would match the 21 points of the 'Incas', but would overcome it by having a better goal difference.
