Oscar 2022: Carlos López Estrada, Mexican Oscar nominee, reacted after his defeat

Mexican Carlos López Estrada, nominated for Best Animated Film for his work on Raya and the Last Dragon, came close to taking home the golden statuette at the 94th Oscar Awards.

And it is that one of the categories that caused the most expectation among Mexican audiences was the one that recognized Carlos López for his work co-directing the children's film with Don Hall, but the creative stayed close to the medal, since it was the Disney film Encanto that won the golden statuette.

The son of soap opera producer Carla Estrada was caught on the cameras of the official broadcast and appeared applauding and congratulating the winners at the time of the announcement of the award, which eventually went to Jared Bush, Byron Howard, Yvett Merino and Clark Spencer.

But moments later, the 33-year-old creative showed his good mood by sharing his first reaction after his defeat.

López Estrada shared photography in his instastories with the nominees for Best Animated Film. 'Animation Losers Photo, 'he wrote about the image he shared, where he is accompanied by nine other people.

He did not specify whether they were also part of the team behind Raya and the Last Dragon, or participated in the creation of the films that were also in the contest and lost to Encanto: Flee, Luca and The Mitchell Family against the Machines; the latter had the participation of the cinematographer Queretano Fausto Estrada.

Raya and the Last Dragon was co-directed by Lopez and Don Hall, and tells in a comedy and action tone the story of Raya, a warrior princess who seeks to save her people Kumandra. “This film was inspired by my mother, Carla Estrada... it is a tribute to her career,” said the creative at the time.
