Through social media, the United States Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, revealed his visit to the premises of the Basilica of Guadalupe, in the Mexican capital, from where he launched a particular petition.

The diplomat asked Our Lady of Guadalupe, who appeared on the slopes of the Tepeyac hill, that Russia's invasion of Ukraine should have a peaceful outcome several weeks after it began.

“My family and I today ask Our Lady of Guadalupe for peace in Ukraine. We ask you to accompany the people of Ukraine in these difficult times,” he wrote on his verified Twitter profile.

Although so far he has accumulated more than 1,500 reactions of “Like”, Salazar was harshly criticized by citizens, who reproached him, for the vast majority, not asking for the violent situation in Mexico.

On several occasions, the US embassy has condemned the reality of violence experienced by drug trafficking, but also of which journalists in the territory are victims.

The most recent one, for example, when he expressed concern about the violence that occurred on the northern border after Juan Gerardo Treviño Chavez, also known as El Huevo, was arrested in Nuevo Ladero, Tamaulipas.

In a statement dated March 15, Ken Salazar assured that the safety of US citizens “and our employees is the highest priority for the State Department.”

The US diplomat stressed that the current situation in Nuevo Laredoshows the importance of continuing to work together with the federal government under the Bicentennial Framework for Safety, Public Health, and Safe Communities to combat crime organizations,” he said in the text.

In addition, he emphasized the State Department's Travel Alert, which classifies Tamaulipas as Level 4, so it is recommended not to travel due to crimes and kidnappings.

There have been various security alerts warning US citizens to avoid areas affected by the Northeast Cartel's vandalism, and invitations to join the Smart Traveler program.

The ambassador attended Sunday Mass accompanied by his family; in the photographs it can be seen that they were received by the emeritus Cardinal Carlos Aguiar Retes after the Fourth Sunday of Lent.

However, users of the social network questioned the fact of not mentioning other wars that are taking place in various parts of the world, without forgetting the drug violence of which the Mexican population is victims.

In this context, other users asked him, instead of prayers, to join the attempts to stop the war peacefully, and to put on the table some concrete actions to be taken into account.

Another comment even launched him the request to send humanitarian aid, translated into food or water, as well as essential resources, and did not focus his efforts so much on prayers.

But the comments were divided, as there were even people who congratulated him on his good deed of great intentions behind, and joined the ambassador with virtual prayers.

But the most controversial comment by citizens was the one where they mention that due to his diplomatic characteristics, he could even be one of the best presidents of Mexico.

“The Ambassador is genuinely Mexican, 100% Guadalupano. He knows all of Mexico, he has fully traveled it. If he had citizenship, he would be a magnificent President of Mexico.”, they wrote.
