Drug trafficking ring dismantled in San Andrés

Thanks to a joint investigation between the Attorney General's Office and the DIJIN of the National Police, it was possible to establish the identity of one of the alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking network responsible for the storage and exit of shipments of cocaine from San Andrés to various Central American countries, the drug was transported by speedboat vehicles.

The one identified as Jhon Jairo Osorio, alias' JJ ', is the one identified as the main responsible. According to the authorities, alias' JJ 'used a front as a merchant in the San Andresito sector in the capital of the country, where he tried to hide all his illegal activities.

According to authorities, the drugs were purchased in Cauca and then transported by cargo vehicles to Bogotá. In the investigation, they stated that part of the narcotic drugs remained in the capital to be distributed in 'pots' or local and regional stores. While much of the material was taken to San Andrés to be sent to Central America.

Another 14 subjects were also captured in simultaneous operations in cities such as Bogotá, Cali, Cartagena and because of their position on the island of San Andrés, in the same way, raids were carried out in the municipalities of Puerto Colombia and Nocaima.

Authorities indicated that along with 'JJ', alias 'Don José' also fell, a former member of the National Navy, identified as Alexander Simanca, and who was part of the self-defenders, 'La Oficina' and the Los Rastrojos gang currently known as the 'Gulf Clan'. 'Don José' would allegedly be responsible for defining the boarding points and the areas through which the boats must circulate due to his knowledge of navigation.

Regarding more information on San Andrés Island and drug trafficking, in previous days the authorities seized 3.4 tons of cocaine, valued at more than 120 million dollars.

The Colombian Navy announced that it developed a joint operation with the Air Force and the United States Southern Command, which aimed to seize nearly 3.4 tons of cocaine hydrochloride, which were transported to Central America on a “Go Fast” type vessel.

“This important result was achieved thanks to a complete synergy between Colombian Navy aircraft and the Colombian Air Force, supported by an air platform of the U.S. Southern Command, who were able to identify and follow in detail a suspicious motor ship, which was sailing in the Caribbean Sea,” said the communication from the military institution.

He also assured that during the execution of the operation and once the vessel was located, the pursuit of the vessel for several miles with naval means began. This is how a rapid reaction unit of the San Andrés Coast Guard Station succeeded in banning the motorship 121 nautical miles off the coast of the Archipelago.

“The boat, which was manned by five subjects, three of Nicaraguan nationality and two Costa Rican, was immobilized and taken to the dock of the San Andrés Coast Guard Station. When checking the inside of the vessel, the crew of the naval institution found 3,287 rectangular packages inside 132 packages,” the Navy said.

Following the events mentioned above, in coordination with members of the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Attorney General's Office, a Preliminary Approved Identification Test (PIPH) was carried out, which tested positive for cocaine hydrochloride weighing 3,382 kilograms.
