Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, head of Government of Mexico City, announced that from 4 April she will start the Transit Reengineering Program, with which the local administration seeks to improve the work of uniformed personnel in charge of proper mobility in the country's capital.
During the press conference of the capital's government, the president reported that now only 400 police officers will be authorized to lift traffic violations in the entity's 16 districts, which will be raised through the electronic application called Mi Policía and in which the population will be able to verify their status and fines.
In addition, he reported that, on the lapel of the uniform, the police will have a camera which will record all interactions between the authority and the public, as well as a band on the arm with the caption “Authorized to infringe”, these changes were designed to eradicate the better known acts of corruption like “moches”.
At the same event, the head of the Ministry of Citizen Security (SSC), Omar García Harfuch, announced the appointment of Francisco Javier Moreno Montaño as the new undersecretary of Traffic Control.
“(The new undersecretary) has more than 16 years of experience in public security, which will allow him to comply with the standards of transparency, combating corruption and respect for human rights that are the strength of this government and this police,” the official said.
García Harfuch also announced that as of the first Monday of April, the preventive police will be prohibited from infringing citizens; in addition, that the population will have the right to request the report number and the amount of the fine from the police in order to verify that the information is the same as what appears in the application.
Continuing the issue of fines, the head of the Secretariat of Administration and Finance, Luz Elena González Escobar, explained that there will be discounts of 90 and 50% on the payment of fines in order to end corruption defects.
Finally, among all the amendments, it was reported that the following causes for sending a vehicle to the corralón were eliminated from the capital traffic regulations:
- Cars with foreign license plates that have been arrested for carrying out some violations.
- Driving in the opposite direction through the streets of Mexico City.
- When the vehicle is running on the streets of the city, but the traffic card is expired.
- Carry out repairs to vehicles on public roads.
- When the driver's license is not valid.
