The figure of Alexander Bublik usually has his flashes of originality on the circuit and had a new episode in the United States after making an unexpected blow with the handle of his racket to win a point in the 6-3 and 6-2 defeat to Casper Ruud for the round of 32 of the Miami Masters 1000. The decision to return the ball in an unorthodox way left the crowd present at the stadium and even their Norwegian opponent stunned.
The Kazakh accustomed the public to expecting the unexpected during his matches over the last few years and again stood in front of the eyes of the tennis world. During the match against the sixth best placed in the tournament, and while dropping 0-4 in the second set after losing the first, Bublik found himself 40-15 up on the scoreboard with the chance of winning the first game of the sleeve.
After a right-wing attack, Ruud threw a large balloon that Alexander observed with a gesture of annoyance at the enormous height that the ball reached. Once in position to return, he quickly ran to the net as he saw that he was about to fall and, as he did so, he turned the racket in his hands. In pure style and with a smile on his face, he made contact with the handle to make it pass on Ruud's side.
The Norwegian arrived with the right ones to make a float return so that seconds later, the Kazakh closed the play with a powerful shot. The fans present at the venue showed their astonishment in a notorious way and the commentators of the official broadcast were also amazed. Bublik, 24 years old and current 33rd in the world, was also delighted with the madness and enjoyed on the way to his bank with a big smile. The Norwegian, far from being angry, shook his hand at the crossing in the manner of approval.
However, Casper closed his win with a resounding 6-3 and 6-2 in 58 minutes of play. Despite the setback, Bublik remained in a good mood and wished Ruud well on the net: “You played well today.” His opponent, while laughing, responded by telling Alexander that his unexpected decision would end up on Tennis TV platforms, which eventually happened.
Among the reactions that existed from the shot that went viral on social networks was Nick Kyrgios. After beating Fabio Fognini to reach the round of 16, the Australian liked Bublik's idea and commented on the post. “This is crazy,” wrote the Australian Open champion in doubles who kept a new trick up his sleeve for some time in the future.
