This Sunday the reigning Giro d'Italia champion, Egan Bernal, was registered, by friends and followers, riding bikes on the roads of the savannah. After two months of having suffered a major accident, which almost left him without life, the Colombian takes his first pedals.

Through social networks, some netizens published a video showing that the Zipaquireño went out to do a little training accompanied by some friends, his mother and girlfriend María Fernanda Manotas, who were wearing the Ineos shirt.

The fellow cyclist Camilo Castiblanco uploaded a story to his official Instagram account in which, for a few short seconds, Bernal is seen riding his bike a few meters ahead. Similarly, through a Twitter cycling profile, there is another video in which the 2019 Tour de France champion back to cycling is perfectly seen.

Bernal's heavy accident saddened the whole world, as the Colombian was at his best. At first it was thought that the leader of Ineos would not touch a bicycle again in a year, but his rapid recovery has shown that he will be ready to compete again in less time than expected.

In fact, a few days ago, the 25-year-old cyclist wrote on his Twitter account “Guess who's on his bike again.” “As long as there is faith, everything is possible. And I want to tell you that when you really want something, there is NO BUT that's worth it,” wrote Egan along with the photograph in which you pose in the INEOS Grenadiers uniform.

Bernal said that his desire is “to return to my best version, I have faith, I don't know why I think I can do it and I think it will be fast”, as he explained a few weeks ago in an interview with Semana magazine.

After returning to the roller, Xabier Artexte, physical trainer of the Zipaquireño, gave more information about what will be the next step in the rehabilitation process. As he explained in a recent interview with 'La Gazzetta dello Sport', Egan will condition his exercises on the response of the back, as the other parts of the body have responded correctly.

“The wounds have healed so you can work in the pool, hydrotherapy. A walk? It mostly depends on the back, because the knee and hip are fine,” he said in the first instance.

“Soon you won't be able to go outside, but, in the most ergonomic position possible, the most comfortable, you'll be able to ride around the house on an adapted bicycle. An ergometric bicycle, we are working on it, with the right measures. I've already ordered this bike,” he said.

Artexte said it's not unreasonable to think about a return before the end of this season: “Egan is a top sportsman and his recovery skills are also above average. I would not reject this possibility, even without setting it as a fixed goal. It's an option that exists.”

A couple of weeks ago, therapist Dayana Tovar, a specialist at the Colombian School of Rehabilitation (ECR), said that Egan was on track to recover his physical tonality, although she estimated his return for next year. After the first phase, which corresponds to physical rehabilitation, Egan would be ready to resume some exercises.

“The second phase is retraining, to which the coach will join. After this work, the fruit of the process is collected and Egan's motivation for his recovery, the knowledge and commitment of the entire rehabilitation team will be vital. We could see it in 2023 on the roads of the world,” he said in statements collected by the portal 'Colombia.com. '
