On May 29, Colombia will live a new election day, in which the successor of President Iván Duque will be elected in the Casa de Nariño. In the same election, the person who will hold the position as Vice-President of the Republic of Colombia shall be elected. Among the functions are that of replacing the president in his temporary or absolute misdemeanors, even if they occur before his possession.

In the case of temporary misconduct of the President of the Republic, it will be sufficient for the Vice-President to take office at the first opportunity, so that he can exercise it as many times as necessary. In the event of absolute fault of the President of the Republic, the Vice-President shall assume office until the end of the term.

In 2022 he received the endorsement of the Alternative Democratic Pole to compete in the interparty consultations of the Historical Pact, where he came in second place with more than 780,000 votes. After this electoral coup, she was invited by Gustavo Petro to be his vice-presidential formula.

Colonel José (r) Luis Esparza was one of the heads of Operation Jaque, a military action that ended the more than six years of kidnapping Betancourt, who was in the hands of the extinct Frac.

The retired colonel was one of the most important men in the intelligence of the Army, but in 2021 he was called by President Iván Duque to qualify services, since anonymous comments against the military would have been sent to the president.

His departure caused controversy and generated the support of more than 50 Army officers who wrote a letter supporting the military, as well as the far-right María Fernanda Cabal, who asked for explanations for the decision.

“If intelligence is what we need to fight crime, why did the hero of Operation Check come out of the military leadership? I am referring to Colonel José Luis Esperanza, who was ready to take command of Military Intelligence,” he said.

Rodrigo Lara Sánchez is a graduate of a public school and a surgeon with a specialization in General Surgery from the University of Cauca, also public. He dedicated much of his life to medical service in hospitals in Bogotá and Neiva.

Lara Sánchez's foray into political life is rather recent.
