Spanish skier Aymar Navarro was the protagonist of a shocking accident while competing in the Freeride World Tour finals, after losing stability and falling by several meters after his third jump. Fear took over the scene because of the images captured by the official broadcast.
The hearts of the spectators stopped for a few minutes as they watched the 32-year-old athlete fall into the void and repeatedly hit the rocks of the Bec de Rosses mountain (Verbier, Switzerland).
Once his body was motionless in the snow, a helicopter quickly came to his rescue and the competition was stopped for more than 20 minutes. Fortunately, the organization assured that it is already out of danger.
“On March 26, 2022, Spanish freeride skier Aymar Navarro was the victim of an accident during the FWT stage taking place at the Bec des Rosses in Verbier, Switzerland,” the Freeride World Tour announced in a statement on its official pages.
“Aymar's life forecast is not compromised. He's complaining about a shoulder, and we suspect a possible head injury. Aymar is being transported to the hospital to undergo further medical tests,” the organization said about the state of health of the Spaniard.
Hours later, Navarro himself spoke on his Instagram account to bring peace of mind to fans: “Difficult day yesterday. A sharp drop in the World Tour Xtreme World Cup Final in Verbier. After making a triple in the upper part of the mountain at the reception of the last jump, I lost control of the ski and rolled out until I hit some rocks where I lost consciousness for a minute.”
“Thanks to the quick performance, assistance and professionalism of the rescue team and all the facilities that the organization has subsequently given me, I am already resting at the hotel,” said the skier along with an image in which he could be seen with the right side of his face and shoulder affected by the blows.
“Now it's time to relax and recover as soon as possible. I have: Fracture of the shoulder in two places, fracture of the metacarpals of the right hand and different traumas from different parts of the body... That said, nothing that is not cured with a little time and patience”, concluded Aymar.
