American superstar Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., better known in the world of hip hop music as Snoop Dogg, revolutionized Colombia's social media and electoral environment with a single Instagram story featuring the vice-presidential formula of the Historical Pact, Francia Márquez.

Apart from his provocative everyday stories, in which he is seen constantly using marijuana derivatives and Afro culture content, Snoop Dogg dared to share a publication on Colombian politics with his more than 71 million followers on the social network.

Without adding words or gifs to the story, the gangsta rap icon shared the headline “Francia Márquez, the Afro-Colombian land defender competing to be Colombia's first black vice president.”

Although the Instagram account that Snoop Dogg shared the headline of belongs to Barrio — a company based in Toronto, Canada dedicated to the promotion of Latino culture and its exponents — the original news is an interview with the digital media Democracy Now that took place last February, when Francia Márquez was still a presidential pre-candidate and he was competing against Gustavo Petro for the place on the card.

However, the interview was published only on Friday, March 25, twelve days after the interparty consultation that gave Petro as winner, and three days after it was announced that France — second place in the consultation — would join as vice-presidential formula.

In this article, Márquez assures that, as in the United States, in Colombia it is a death sentence to be part of black, impoverished and racialized youth.

She also revealed that one of her two children is living in Boston, capital of the American state of Massachusetts, to protect her safety as she embarks on the political path. She assured that she has experienced the death of several young people close to her and would not bear to lose her own in the same way.

Between joke and chanza, in his own way, the American rapper stands on the progressive side of the spectrum. He has supported the presidential campaigns of Democrats Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden. Among the reasons he gave his followers to vote for Obama, he said that “he is Jay-Z's best friend”, “he is black” and “Michelle has a huge butt.”

It has also advocated causes such as equal marriage, the defunding of police forces and, of course, the legalization of recreational marijuana use. In fact, he has made investments in commercial marijuana lines, edibles and even a media outlet dedicated to cannabis news, in addition to his controversial appearance during the last NFL Super Bowl in which he was seen smoking a “joint” before going on stage.
