Alias' Cubanel 'is responsible for committing crimes in the municipalities of Puerto Libertador, Buenavista and Planeta Rica in the department of Cordoba. On more information about the Gulf Clan, the authorities managed to capture members of the Army who cooperated with this criminal group, among others.
An investigation carried out by the Attorney General's Office, in conjunction with the counterintelligence of the National Army, resulted in the capture of two sergeants and 4 professional soldiers in Bogotá, Ibagué and Piedecuesta, Santander, who were accused of selling weapons to different criminal organizations.
The soldiers arrested are from Fonseca, municipality of La Guajira, Cauca and Caquetá. One of the sergeants, at the time of his capture, was even surprised with about 500 parts of weapons for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces, in his possession.
The results of the investigation indicate that soldiers diverted weapons, parts and ammunition from different battalions in the country, in order to market and/or sell them, allegedly, to illegal groups such as FARC dissidents, the National Liberation Army (ELN) and the Gulf Clan.
The judiciary requested the intramural detention of uniformed persons for the crimes of: concert for aggravated crimes, carrying and trafficking in weapons for the exclusive use of the armed forces and illicit enrichment. Authorities revealed that only one of the sergeants accepted the charges.
These investigations had already generated other arrests, for example, last month raids were carried out against active and retired soldiers, in Bogotá and other capital cities of the country. In total, 13 people were apprehended during the operation, including 2 retired colonels.
6 were civilians and the other 5 were active military personnel, who had been investigated since 2019, who were charged with crimes for: trafficking, manufacture or carrying of narcotic drugs, concert to commit aggravated crimes, bribery, money laundering and training for illegal activities.
The Prosecutor's Office reports that the retired colonel, Robinson González del Rio, was sentenced to 37 years in prison, as he had already been prosecuted for the murder of the young men in cases of false positives, but he would have recovered his release for the benefit of “parole”, worth the redundancy, granted by the Special Justice for the Peace (JEP).
Both cases suggest that the soldiers would be working for the armed group known as the Gulf Clan.
